It’ll be a while before I’d buy a Chinese (designed and built) car. Their safety record is not so good to say it kindly. Apart from that I’m not inclined to spend any more money than strictly necessary on “made in China”. In the long run it’ll bite us all economically and possibly militarily the way they are going on in the South China Sea. They are arming big time and also going fast in Space Tech and operations. It’s a bit like Russia who we befriended and started trading more and more with. In the end they are authoritarian regimes that do not follow international law as closely as we would like them to.

Battery swap would suit me, for sure.

But that's for another day. I need to define my car requirements beyond November then it might be a case of
  1. Run the Jaaaaaag into the ground
  2. Chop the Jaaaaaag in for something just as cheap top buy but sod the fuel (XFR perhaps)
  3. Chop it in for something not cheap to buy but better on fuel.
Decisions decisions :)

I really don't like hiring cars , mostly because of the CDW charges that double the daily rate but if you don't take it the excess charges if it gets bumped are horrific

I'd go with power, sod the fuel cost

Nio ET7 , they've delivered just over 9000 so far , mostly in China I'd think

That is definitely the best looking one. The smaller one has a hint of Tesla from end to it. Didn’t realise they did so many models. That free lifetime warranty and roadside recovery for the original owner isn’t bad either.

One of the reasons it's not in the UK yet might be the autonomous driving , I'm not sure it could cope with

Just filled up the GranCab and paid over £2.00 per litre in Colchester for the 1st time in my life!!! I know it should not mean much, £1.97 vs £2.02 BUT psychologically, it is a real red flag for me….. and I also have the QPV and the Forester which is not that frugal tbh…..+the family Disco which I am not getting rid of but as a 2013 Diesel, I can’t go inside the 406 without paying…..

….. sooooo,,,, I am thinking of getting a Fiesta as a daily but the XLS economics are the same as paying for solar… it’s a big outlay where I may as well keep the capital and flitter it away on the delta in prices (delta from what though??)..

what would you do??

Stu (btw, it would have to be a Fiesta ST)..

Had a 1.0 ecoboost fiesta with a decent spec for a couple of years as a station car. Have to say it was an annoyingly good car that really made you think how inefficient and unnecessary all my other toys were. Got rid of it before I did something sensible/stupid (delete depending on your viewpoint)!

You're 'asking' the wrong guy, but I assume it was a general question :)

As a general comment: Over £2.00!!!!! Fuel's nothing like that round here! UL is about 1.71 and Satansperm about 1.84

If I was a company director I'd 100% run an electric car , especially if I lived near London, the bik savings are huge without even thinking about fuel ved and servicing , with my own money.....

the numbers would need to stack up.

A tool for a job , fun cars are for fun roads, not crawling into London

I barely need a vehicle at all these days , I'd say 70% of my miles are done in a smart car so I've no need for a 15-30k electric car

Still got 5 vehicles though :D

So I have a weekly drive to City airport which is 120m round trip. Maser on circa 18mpg so effectively 4 miles per litre…. So I am using 30 litres at £2 per litre so costing £60 - at £0.45 per mile that I can claim on expenses, the actual expenses no longer cover the cost….

It's not as if they're going to make driving anywhere near London any easier or cheaper so electric could be the answer
You'll pay 40% of 2% of list bik tax assuming you're a 40% taxpayer , it really is buttons PA .

120 miles is charge at home money , I suppose it comes down to cost / performance on which EV to go for.

I'm not interested because I can't afford a fast one so I'll stick with the GR Yaris

I filled with v power now at £1.98 per litre

I do 300 mile journeys 2-3 times a month and a 60 mile daily trip for work

The EV model doesn’t work for me, I need a car that can get to my little ones house, then make it home, not ask to use their power for a few hours
That’s another thing…..I fear guests will be asking to use power sockets when they visit, it’ll become the norm…..
