Hi all,

I went for a spirited drive earlier, and had a little bit of fun with a guy in a GTR. His car sounded epic, made mine seem slow, and looked the part.

Have any on here driven one? Are they a contender as an eventual replacement for the GTS?

I have no first hand experience of them personally but it's been talked about a lot within the members.

Some have driven them and some have friends who own them and one senior member used to sell them.

Yes they are fast but apparently leave you cold. Exteriors look good, interiors are bland and uninspiring.

Take from that what you will.

Fast as feck......yuk inside......but fast as feck......Anycar that can hit 60 well under 4 seconds has to stir the petrol head inside you.........

The thing that really surprised me today was the sound it made

At one point we were on a dual carriageway, both slowed to 50 for a speed camera, had a little smile at each other, and then both changed down and floored it. He pretty much left me for dead, but the noise was incredible...

:)
I did think about them - but it's a Nissan.
The Cali 30 is as fast and different league interior and style, I think it's worth the extra money.
Maserati wise I would much prefer a strad and forgo the GTR being faster and console myself with the fact that
The Trident looked far better

It's a fairly chunky price differential isn't it Iain? I'm guessing your Cali was pretty close to 6 figures, and from the very limited stuff I've seen when browsing on Autotrader, you could easily spend north of 130k for a Cali T.

I agree the Maserati looks nicer, and I get the fact it's a Nissan, but as a toy car to have some fun in, I think I'm going to keep it on my options list for when (or if) I decide it's time for a change...

I'm happy to admit it.

It's a Nissan. Yeah it's a technological marvel and goes like stink. It's not going to turn heads like an Italian car will. Sure, some petrolheads will nod, nothing can change the fact that it's a Nissan.

Suspect you're right... luckily for me I'm still very much in love with my Italian mistress, and have no intention to change anytime soon... Was a fun drive today, and I was almost laughing at several points as the sound was so good...

Thanks Mick. I would have been pilloried for saying that.
I understand what you mean Jon about it being an option.
But If price is a consideration I would personally stay in the Masarati Strad /Aston segment. They sound and feel epic. If purespeed is an issue get a motorbike
And yes- 6 figures of course for a '30. But I am only planning on living once.

Think the GTR looks and goes well...but still prefer a trident.

I guess that is due to the history of the brand, it makes some wonderful sports car and has not polluted its blood line making lesser models for the masses.... well that used to be the case untill 2014.

Just on the point of not turning heads like a Ferrari or Maserati..........At Brunty on your marks for the last few years the GTR gate had The biggest Q's of all and a longer wait than any other club including ours and they raised the most money........So take from that what you will ........ but I think we may be doing this Datsun a miss favour saying it isn't a head turner......People we're flocking to get a ride in them......

Would I have one....Nope.....Amazing achievement though.

I've tracked a GTR and it was fantastic, great car for the money.

Positives:
It'll wipe the floor with cars that cost double.

For a few grand modding it'll take on cars that are £200k plus

Sounds good.

Has a definitely aggressive road presence and stance.

Annoying people in much more expensive cars (yet much slower) that look down their nose at it being a Datsun.

The GTR is a legend in its own right.

Negatives:
No getting away from it, the interior quality drips in Nissan; hard plastics and quite basic switchgear.

Servicing and general maintenance costs are higher than you'd imagine, very similar to a Maserati.

Visibility from inside is quite poor.

It's a big car both in looks and in feel.

The GTs sound is epic. I bet the GTr driver was envious

Not sure Iain as thier envy would soon go once they saw the GT in there rear view mirror disappearing very fast indeed...... ...... I can only say what happened at Brunty and I wouldn't say that any of the GTR drivers would be remotely interested in Maserati as most on here wouldn't sell their Maserati for a GTR.........If you want a GTR I would probably say a GT isn't on your list......Buyers of the GTR tend to only want a GTR and lots have worked through most of the models over the years after talking to some of them at Brunty.

Not for me I just carnt be bothered we over smug owners who know that there *** wagon is as fast or faster than cars 3 times there price . No soul ! I thinking of changing cars soon time to move on would like a gts 4.7 but cart afford one of them . So a earley gen 1 Cayman 3.4s resprayed in Mexico blue with a gt4 body kit and a turbo stage 2 conversion all for about 25k ! 460 bhp running at a safe low boost . 1400 kg car with 460 horses = 911 turbo killer !

Since when has a shortened version of Japanese been a naughty word ?

Young guy I work with had one for a couple of years. Yes very fast, but he said it was akin to a video game. He sold it .

Some of you meet Paul who came to Llandow with me, he is on retainer to the GTR club for any track days they do and has been in just about every version. The latest R35 is an awesome piece of kit in standard trim and relatively cheap for the power and they way it goes but they are easy to mod and there are many running 600, 700 or 800 BHP that look just like stock. The fastest Paul had ever been around the ring was in a 770BHP road going version with a driver who knew what he was doing.

That said they don't have any soul uses cheap plastics and intervene too often - a road going arcade game is pretty good description.

Not so sure. Like Jon - I think a lot of people want to try a lot of cars in their life.
It would be interesting to know how many people own a GTs and a GTR in their life.
I suspect during ownership the GTs owners wish theirs went a little faster and the GTR owners wished their interiors felt more special and
they could change their badge.
Imagine if the Strad was as fast as the GTR.
There would be no threads needed then.
