Newton​, did you have your garage floor slab made to spec for the lift or was it already there and good enough to install the lift?

Been looking at lifts for the workshop and not sure if my slab has reinforced bars in it or what the thickness is all round. Is there an easy way to tell if it has reinforced bars in it short of cutting some or drilling loads of holes?

I had a ring beam raft engineered by the civils at the place I was working some 27 years ago, it was given a spec of 10 ton spot loading so I could put any machinery in any location without fear, likewise I built the loft independent of the roof so I could remove the loft if I wanted to (it was a plan to install a travelling crane at one time).

If you wanted to put one in to an unknown floor I would suggest placing a concrete beam in and adding a conduit for the post connections or going for a four post lift which needs a much lighter foundation.
