Porsche 911 - Best looking one

lol I need to be 'in the mood' whatever that means for a Porsche. I will say one thing, these cars whether its a Boxster or a 911, hold their prices well.

This particular example is a shambles of a car!

Members who have never driven a 911 are in for a big surprise, the sound is addictive.

I have a Carrera 4 and it holds the road like no other car I have ever driven, I can't compare it against the QP as there is no comparison, each have their own merits.

Good luck with the sale.

There was a write up in the Telegraph on Saturday in the motoring section regarding two new Porker's

For around 140K there's nothing to touch them for the money, superbly engineered, ballisticly quick and even go up in price..

What's not to like...trouble is for me I couldn't be seen in one...as I've never owned a German car in my life!

I drove a GT3 on track and I have to say it is the best car I have ever driven, it was like having your finger tips on the tarmac, you could predict every little movement and react with the car. Even with the lack of ABS/ESP the car gives (driven well) confidence to push harder and harder. If I had the money one would be in my garage without question.

But I can't have that and a masser....

The subject car is a bit ott for my liking, although I do like 911's with fat rumps.

I followed a Turbo S for a few miles yesterday. It was on a 52 plate which I think pre-dates the model; it looked nice and went well, but still lacks the cachet of the trident.

I don't doubt their engineering and handling etc but they do nothing at all for me.

The car linked above is seriously ****** up.

I came within a hair's breadth of buying a 997 GT3 a couple of weeks ago. The thing was phenomenal. Went like a greyhound with a rocket up its **** and handled like it was on rails. The sounds was fantastic - not big exhaust sounds like the Maser, but a raw mechanical noise which just wanted to be pushed and pushed.

But it had just two seats and utterly, hopelessly and irrecoverably failed the wife's "things I'd be happy to drive round in" test. Probably for the best. Whilst the Maser is a joyful event even at trundling speeds, I suspect that the GT3 needs its **** whipped, and hard, before you get what our very own motoring pundit Benny calls the nutsack tingle. But by Christ was it fun.

Good friend had a 996 GT3 for a while.
Hopelessly impractical, fixed backrest seats, not only could you not get behind them, say to clean the rear window, there was not even enough of a space to pass through a crash helmet for storage going on a track day. Not to mention the low ground clearance.
The grip and handling was something else, the problem was, that when the limit was reached it just went and unless you were a professional racing driver you wouldn't even know the limit was reached before you were facing the wrong way. As my friend found out! fortunately on track with no damage.
He sold it and bought the much more practical 997 Turbo instead!

I'm sure Porsches are fantastic machines but they just don't stir or inspire my imagination like a Maserati. I can name three other Maserati cars that I would love to own at some point being GS,GT and a QP. I can also think of several Alfa's that I would love to own or own again in some cases. I can't think of a single Porsche or for that matter Ferrari that makes me think if I had the money I would buy that.

It's great if the car you own doesn't depreciate or depreciates slowly but if you don't enjoy driving the car or it doesn't tick all the boxes then its not for me.

It's an emotional thing plus an undefinable something that makes us drive what we do. There are lots of things that do it better on paper.

I think you have hit the nail on the head there. I feel no emotions at all when i look at a porsche or ferrari or bmw. Maserati's the odd Aston for some reason. A few Alfa's and a Lotus exige and even things like Mgb Gt and C's and the MG metro 6r4 fire up the imagination far more than other cars.

That's fecking awful Chris.....Love 911's though.....I have driven a few and completely understand why people love them and buy them......A car you can drive everyday without breaking the bank or the thing falling apart.....Porsche do it so well......The GT3/GT3 RS is sublime in any guise.

I can't believe what some 911's go for these days, especially the lower end of the market/the less hyped ones.

911sc, 3.2 Carrera and 964 seem to have all shot up in value massively.

The only ones I would consider are GT3 etc.

I could buy a 911 but for the money I can't see it being a special one, it would feel like the conformists choice - not to mention arguably looking like a bit of a tosser.

... not to mention arguably looking like a bit of a tosser.

That's pretty much what Mrs Crud commented. The GT3 was spectacular and the prospect of depreciation-free motoring was attractive. Assuming prices continue to rise, that is. They could quite easily fall, or at least normalise, especially if Porsche brings out a manual GT3 in the current incarnation.

I like 911s and would love to have one when the kids are grown up (which means I'll be an old man) BUT that is quite frankly f****** horrendous.
