Porsche 911 - Best looking one

Nope.

All personal preference of course. And Porsche don't do it for me personally.

Dynamics, performance, racing pedigree...all a different story.

Plenty of respect for the engineering.

And the trouble with this noise is that it's best at >6k revs. And that's license-bothering territory.

I'm by no means anti Porsche and some of the early 911s for me are just lovely. An early 70s round window targa 911s would suit me very nicely as an addition to a collection. As they got a bit fatter from the 80s onwards I wasn't so keen but my nephew has just bought a 997, his first fast car, and I'm looking forward to giving it a try

Funny comments about the 911 engine being in the wrong place. Part of fun in owning my Mas is the fact is has a unique character, and takes time to learn how to work with it. It doesn't handle perfectly but if you know what you are doing can be a real hoot to drive. The MC Shift takes time to learn but is much more fun for it to me than a modern double clutch box.

Well guess what, my 911 is fun for exactly the same different reasons. The fact that the engine is in the wrong place gives it a character. the pendulum effect makes you drive it with respect, but no other RWD car can generate the same traction accelerating out of a corner (providing you have set the car up the right way on the way in). I like the fact that it doesn't grab as much attention as the Mas, and some think i'm a t***** just because of one of the cars I drive, but I know that it is a great car that just gets better the harder you push it and the longer you live with it. Love Mas, Love 911.

100% agree......I have never found any 911 sterile and without character....The Turbo I drove blew me away....Fast an capable and a great drivers car but the GT3 was on a different level for driver engagement.......The 911 doesn't have the mantle as a great drivers cars for nothing........

The mechanical noise and engagement of the GT3 were utterly intoxicating. It took work - the crazy heavy clutch and the manual 'box demanded full attention. Although the seats were very comfortable the car let you feel every ripple and bump in the road. There was no "comfort" feel to it in the way that I think the 458 or McLaren Sports Series can be great mile-munchers as well as back-road thrashers. I reckon c4sman has the right idea. My garage would, space and funds permitting, be home to my Maser as well as a Gen II GT3 RS. In an either/or scenario the GTS wins because it does so much more with so much more style and presence (in my humble, anyway).

That's fecking awful Chris.....Love 911's though.....I have driven a few and completely understand why people love them and buy them......A car you can drive everyday without breaking the bank or the thing falling apart.....Porsche do it so well......The GT3/GT3 RS is sublime in any guise.

I know haha

My next car should have the engine behind me, I've decided. But in general that means having a car with just two seats, or totally pointless back seats.

Don't do it mate, you'd look even more of a tw4t than you do now if you got an MGF.

Can't believe those auction prices even the Pajero EVO. They don't sell at 7k on Autotrader. Surely the bubles gonna burst sometime ?

I've always quite liked 911's.

993 Turbo and 964/965 Turbo would be my choice.

If I was going for a new one it would be the 997 GTS good alround car really.

But I have to say the Maserati's just seem to have a little something over the Porsche's.

Auction prices are interesting to say the least.
How about a 2005 facelift 4200 manual with 40k+ on the clock.
No history between 2007 and 2013 and 2013/14 services by a non specialist and nothing since then.
Needing discs all round.
What is that worth bearing in mind you are buying blind and sold as seen?
