Purchase of Maserati Granturiso S MC Shift few questions

Mine told me to buy a GTS. I didn't need telling twice! And bought one within a week just in case she changed her mind!

Same. It helped to start with a Lotus Elise which she can't stand. We were driving to a nice dinner and I said I'd found a car I preferred that seated 4 people but was well over twice the price of the Lotus and she just said "well buy that one then" and went back to texting her friends. I opted not to raise the topic again, funnily enough, until I picked the car up.

So.. I've spoken to adg they are willing to sort everything on that list bar the following

Exhaust values stuck open. He thinks it's around 2.5k to address if needed

And engine covers at the rear are slightly weeping a gain around £750 to sort

So really I need to make a choice if I'm happy to continue knowing those items will need sorting eventually

Any thoughts advise appreciated

The car will stay firm at 34.5k and be fully serviced and prep'd

Thing is at the moment I would have only a few more options of MC Shift and all are 38k plus

Well the other fix for the exhaust is to simply cut them out and replace them. Which will be a *lot* less than the 2.5k to replace the boxes. You may find that the valves themselves are stuck and with a certain amount of 'persuasion' you can get them moving again. Ir it may be the actuators.

I'm currently trying to source some replacements on ebay, but they all seem to be the wrong way which is open when subjected to vacuum.

Cam gaskets can wait.

Personally that sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

That sounds fine to me, you may well find some s/h after market boxes for sale as they come up from time to time and they would an option for you.

I may have missed it earlier, but have does the engine number on this car fall into the possible variator issue that the early 4.7s suffered with & if so, have they been fixed do you know?

Best to ask the question then - ADG & Giallo know all about this issue as Giallo have fixed many for theirs and ADG's customers

My exhaust valves were stuck closed, I got them moving again with a gas torch, some spray lube and some tapping back and forth. Got them both moving the full range again and haven't had a problem since. Worth finding a garage that can do this for a score before shelling out £****

I did the same when my boxes arrived on the workmate. Problem I have is that one is rattling.

So you're at £35,750 with stuck exhaust valves and no variators done? You should probably regard this as being a £38-40k car, unless it's within that warranty cover.

re the exhaust valves - contrary to what I previously said - sports mode awesome for a half hour blast, can do your head in if you're driving for 2 hours. Depends on your expected usage.

I agree with this having modded my valves to remotely open/close on my gts auto. There's a point at 2-3k rpm where there's a lot of resonance/droning that is just too loud for me. I don't know if the MC shift in sport mode still has some modulation to even out the exhaust note at lower revs or not, but I wouldn't be happy with stuck open valves.

2.5k for stuck valves? That sounds extraordinary. It makes me wonder what else has been left to deteriorate. Danny, definitely make sure they give you a good warranty. What's the clutch wear like?

My valves were stuck unbeknownst to me when I purchased mine. I loved it and NEVER wished for it to be quieter.
When I had a few bits done at Autoshield by Marios and an x pipe fitted he must have fixed it for free, because the sport button and valves worked when I got it back.
My whole bill for quite a few items inc labour and parts was around 1k.
When I got it back i was horrified how quiet it was in normal mode.

Lol great story to be fair I'm not buying this car to drive round quietly I want to be noticed I have a 26mile commute and will using it for 2-3 days a week I think for that it would be ok if I wanted to fix it then I guess I could get some quotes and parts sorted with the help of this forum I have a feeling some of these items won't be all that bad.

Bit nervous that I'm in Norwich not a massive amount of masser help round here that I'm aware off.

Gonna sit down and mull over it tonight over a rum and coke see what I feel like

Keep the advice coming it's really helpful
