Skyscraper was indeed an Epsom derby winner in 1789. Named in 1786 according to my reference book is the first use of the word skyscraper.

There is as a couple of people mentioned a nautical term from slightly earlier but i believe this was sky scraper as two words and refers to the masts on tall ships.

QI states the first skyscraper was the Derby winner so i will stick with their answer.

Over to you Thumper. Is your name from the Disney character or are you a bit handy in your spare time ? :)

I can't answer that for fear of incriminating myself :)

Sticking with the horses:
What was unusual about the 1828 Epsom Derby?

Well done Andy. Cadland and The Colonel had to compete in a run off, literally a two horse race :) Cadland won by 1 and a half lengths.

Over to you.

Secretariat i would have thought was in the top 5 worldwide. Possibly not number 1 though.

Ask the same question in a few years and it may well be Frankel.
