Who were the 9 British monarchs who were born abroad?
And which one was born at Le Mans?
With a couple of extra clues:

1. William I – Normandy, France (1028) / (spkennyuk)
2. William II – Normandy, France (1060) / (midlifecrisis)
3. ???????? - His mother was William's daughter, and he was the only king ever to have this name
4. Henry II – France (5 March 1133) / (midlifecrisis)
5. Richard II – France - (6 January 1368) / (spkennyuk)
6. Edward IV - France (28 April 1442) / (spkennyuk)
7. ???????? – Invited to be King as he was a Protestant and his mother was the daughter of the late king
8. George I – Leineschloss, Germany (28 May 1660) / (midlifecrisis)
9. George II – Herrenhausen, Germany - 30 October 1683 / (spkennyuk)

Number 3. The only king to have that name clue. Is that king Stephen ? I cant think of any others where the name has only been used once off the top of my head.

So we are looking at 3,4,5,6 or 7 being born at Le Mans. I have no idea who 7 is or where they were born.

Is the missing one James I, James VI of Scotland. I'd guess that he would have been born in France when his mother was exiled there.

Nope, sorry, he was born in Edinburgh.

It's odd, as I would have though #7 would have been one of the most obvious ones, as a fairly recent monarch, with a relatively well-known 'arrival' story. He was invited by the British nobility to come over and depose the current Catholic king because the queen had just produced a male heir. This foreign person seen to be a legitimate candidate, since he was a European Protestant Prince, whose grandfather had been a British king, and who was married to the current king's daughter (a Protestant). Shortly after his arrival (with an army), Parliament decreed that the old king, who had escaped to France, had effectively abdicated the throne, and that the new man could be King.

Looks like this has potential to stretch to another week long extravaganza

No way! I'm going to give away #7 with increasingly revealing clues all day. And the 'Le Mans' question really just involves four guesses (limited to one per person, I suppose.)

...and that's your first clue to #7 - not France.

So we are left with 3,4,5 or 6 being born at Le Mans. I will take a guess at 4.
We just need three other people to guess before we have a winner. :)

This isnt a trick question as it does sound similar to a previous question that is.

There are only four words in common use in the English language that end dous can you name them ?

There is a 5th one apodous which is a zoological term and not in common use so i have excluded from the question.
