I had a couple of Disco 3s and they were great. No issues at all. I'd take a new RR Sport very happily, possibly over the full-fat RR. Great looking car and hugely capable in all conditions.

But if I was the kind of person who wanted and could afford a Roller I suppose I might be tempted by a 4x4 Roller. But I'd probably be in Russia or China. I don't expect we'd see many in this country, thank ****.

Latest models of all types have improved hugely, mind you they'd need too.......all top marques looking to the new markets to expand....old markets will only evolve slowly over time

Never been a Range Rover fan but a couple of years ago we got offered one for a few hundred quid. Mrs Z loved it, kids and all their associated stuff plus dog went in no problem and other than fuel economy it did everything she needed. Eventually it lifted a liner so was sold on for spares, at a profit I might add and a later L322 arrived.

It is a oil burning slugger but as the family bus it takes some beating, it goes everywhere, carries everything we need and can drag my cars around as and when required. Yes it gone wrong, Air Suspension (£1000), Xenon Headlights (£500) and the steering column sounds on its way out (another £1k) - sensibly I put a decent warranty on it, phew.

Can't see us being without one now.

Yeah...V8s are susceptible to the liner problem/overheating....earlier L322 are proving just as much grief as P38s but much more to fix.....post 2007 when Jaguar engines used etc much, much better

Current L322 is an 03, it should las t a year or two as it has less than 50k miles on it. A later TDV8 will be next but a tad dear at the moment.

I never had engine problems with my old Range Rover 3.9 V8, but other stuff, mainly electrics were a bit unreliable..!! Overall as an off road, or towing vehicle, they are excellent..!! My Jeep Commander is also brilliant as a workhorse and it's fast, but thirsty..!!

Oops - Of course who has ever had a reliable Range Rover
My 2000 year P38 is ultra reliable as it now has a Mitsubishi Shogun 2.8 diesel in it. Had for 5 years and will pull a house down. Along with the 4200 definite keepers.

Well Mrs Z fecking thing has gone in for it's MOT and the list is not a short one

Front discs & pads
Ball Joint & other suspension bushes
Xenon light control unit

Happy I added the wear and tear option to the warranty, now for the discussion about how much they will cough up.

On top of that two bits of paint work to sort, one our cost and one by the neighbour who reversed into it last week. At least she won't be able to give me a hard time about Maserati running costs after this lot.

That sounds like a severe case of neglect Z....am surprised the MOT station didn't confiscate it off you......;)

You can get a decent set of discs and pads all round for £80 odd?

How many ball joints.....and bushes, £30 a corner plus labour.......no probs.....:)

I'm not that keen on the Compass, the Commander is big, the Commander Overland has all the bits you can think of including a cinema system front & rear and with it's 5.7 hemi it's quick, thirsty though..!!

Most of the stuff is relatively simple stuff but the control unit for the Xenon is a Land Rover only part and £360 plus VAT
