Speeding in France

The link below from the Red side of life shows how bad things have got.

http://www.fcars.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?52610-speeding-in-France

French friends tell me of incidents where Uk cars have been stopped for doing 150+kph and have had a spot fine imposed plus licence and passport held until a means test is carried out whereupon the fine can increase to on occassions over £1000.00. If you do not pay your licence and passport are witheld.

Francois Hollande has instructed all enforcement agencies to squeeze the life out of anyone who can pay.

Makes life just that bit more difficult...................

Not good.......once again their anti-capitalist attitude ensures we all suffer.

You state UK cars, do they do the same with Dutch, German, Italians etc?

Got stopped for speeding once in France and the Gendarmes took me to a cashpoint so that I could withdraw the money to pay the fine before they would let me go. Not sure what would happen if I couldn't have paid.

One of my French crew has an uncle in the force and patrols the bit between Cherbourg and Caen and considers the Brits to be easy pickings. I supposes the other nationalities like the Germans are a bit more observant knowing the consequences a speeding fine has on their insurance which is considerably higher than in the UK where maybe only 10% is levied if you have 6 points or so.

It's their stance on means testing a speeder that worries me. Where's the ceiling and to whom would you appeal???????????????

Unless spelt out it would be challengeable, plus surely the same for locals, can't discriminate...but they are french....;)

They do that in Norway(?) where they fined a speeded based on his wealth, cost him thousands!!!

Yes, reminds me of a trip there last year:

It doesn't seem to slow the Dutch down. The only cars which overtook me in 1,200 miles around northern France over the last two weeks were NL registered.

French plod are definitely getting more devious. My cousin-in-law pointed out to me a hill in a field which has a good sight line down a tempting straight. He said they've discovered they can hide out of view just over the crest of the hill. They've been harvesting that straight ever since.

There seems to be a lot more active 'catching' going on in France than in speed-camera UK.

F*cking french w4nkers. We should do to them what they do to us, ie on the spot fines and removal of licence at the side of the road. If they get stopped over here, they get a ticket and off they go. Are all Europeans equal? Are they bollox. F*cking french w4nkers.

SO..!! Some of the speed camera's will not be quick enough to catch cars doing more than 200kph, now that's interesting, so 201kph+ is the way to go then..!!

That's why we shouldn't go down to the centenary through France, though the Germans are voting on getting other Eu states to pay for the use of their roads soon

Friend of mine got stopped this summer. Didn't have enough cash to pay. Gendarmes made him leave his wife my the side of the road with the gendarme so he could drive off to cash point. Took him an hour and quite a few Euros........not sure it was worth it!

How many people would volunteer to pay an on the spot fine when they get back to UK!?

Eeeemmm...maybe none......so the UK system is much more road abuser friendly to fellow EU nationals....

There is an EU wide anti-car, anti road user, anti fair play attitude nowadays

Although they drive fast in Germany they all respect other drivers, even more so if your driving a RHD old Italian super car!

Why would you want to give them the pleasure of picking faults with just about anything they can think of and they will be wetting themselves when they know about the centenary and the easy pickings they will get with all the hyped up punters happily making their way down
