I've not been this far into one of these engines yet (thankfully) but is there not a bearing shell in this location? It looks in the photos like it is being carried by the cam shell beyond the first valve.

Ok just looked on Eurospares and I see it is a common saddle at that end but no shells!

Incidentally yes but that was not my intention.

I cannot understand there not being a white metal shell around that, even the Alfa 2.0 TwinSpark has shells on the variator!

New 4.7 camshaft just under £1600 ouch. Repair or replace head. Who knows! Engine out and labour. Doh!

Couple of ad hoc rattles at start up so it went in to have variatiors done
