Morning, all. Hope the wedding's a blast Stuart. Shame you're not there by Maser.

Today I'm off to Dub Customs in Basildon to be pimped. Photos to follow.

Please ensure that any photos of you post pimping are suitably tagged with NSFW. I am trying to poke out my mind's eye even now.

Had a full geometry setup done on the car this afternoon ahead of Brunty next week, had another check of the wishbones and all good, I'd not made a bad job of setting up the tie rods but it is handling a lot better now. The front toe was too aggressive given the camber at the higher end of the acceptable range so we settled on neutral to make the whole set-up aggressive road/track. £59 all in so rather chuffed with that.

Got the second rear box done and just need to clean them in the morning and fit them :D

Morning Drew, enjoy you day testing and hopefully we will speak later. Mercian has contacted me and she is still coming which is great news. May need you to send the pass to her as I spilt wine over my chrome book and now it will not work and the pass is on there. I'll let you know when we talk.

Great news Newton....some Brunty fun coming up.

Good morning all.

Need to catch up Drew, what have you bought and which track?
Waiting to be picked up by a good friend in his Caterham for a day at Harewood Hill Climb. Those that saw me at Newby Hall, he came along with me in the Maser and still had his 'cage' on his leg...now off after a year so it will be the 7's first long run.

Morning All,
Miserable day "up North" so Maser will stay in garage unless things change - dramatically!!
Good night last night so currently managing a mild headache.
Have fun,
Dave

Morning all. Some emails to send, then it's enough of work for a Sunday. There is some wind here, making heat a bit affordable.
Have a good one.

Morning all. Steering clear of work today, though there's plenty to do.

Instead a lazy day of buggering about outside beckons. There are bound to be some things that need to be sawed, some holes that need to be drilled and something that needs to be polished. But first, another coffee.

Morning all. Great night last night at Bedford proms. Bleeding cold though!

Newton, was that just tracking? Surely not camber and caster as well?

Where?

This was at Elite Tyres on the old A13 at Rainham RM13 8DE, I was apprehensive as you simply book it with the desk and the guy booking it in did not instil any faith being nonplussed by my saying I'd fitted new tie rods on the rear! I watched the keys move along the trays and spoke to the 'driver' who ramped it and he was spot on and introduced me to the young lad actually doing the job. He was very knowledgeable and discussed all the options, asked me to wait by the door until he had it all set up then raised the ramp and we went through the whole car front to back checking and discussing the settings and checking the wishbones yet again!

You are correct that £59 did not include adjusting camber or caster but the latter was spot on and the camber was at the top end of the range, based upon this we agreed to set a neutral toe on the front to compensate and leave it aggressive road/track when done. There are four screens of data he produces and a lovely print out of the finished job for my records :) They can do caster and camber if you want (and provide the shims).

I left feeling an excellent job was done and she handles just right now :D and now has the bark to match!!!

Waiting to be picked up by a good friend in his Caterham for a day at Harewood Hill Climb. Those that saw me at Newby Hall, he came along with me in the Maser and still had his 'cage' on his leg...now off after a year so it will be the 7's first long run.

Afternoon.... Today didn't go exactly as planned.

To start with, I struggled to get any heat into the tyres, so it was swapping ends all the time. Much too hard a compound for the temperature perhaps.

Then, someone stuffed his car and the circuit was closed for a little while - all completely cold again. Went back out and drove a couple of careful laps looking to get some grip before I gave it all the beans. Just as the tyres were starting to work, I discovered it was extremely squirrely under braking for the chicane on the long straight, but then I'd braked much harder than before, and perhaps the brake balance was too much to the rear. Felt fine coming out under power, and through the next two left handers it felt 'wrong'.... By the following right hander, I'd decided something was certainly wrong, and had slowed to come into the pits just after the corner. Didn't make it - spun it again at around 30mph, mostly because it only had three wheels by then, with the left rear drive shaft having stripped the bolts and made a bit for home on its own. Not ideal... However, could have parted company at much higher speed, which would have been more of a pig to collect.

So Mike.... It's an ADR Sports 1000. There are some pictures further back in the thread... Good job I couldn't get an entry into Harewood this weekend, as I'd have been running the car there at full chat up the hill when it let go, I guess, and it's not famed for large run-off for most of the track.

Hats off to the marshalls at Blyton, who loaded the car onto my trailer in a matter of minutes, and found all the bits. Slightly less hats off to them, as they damaged my wing whilst doing it. Oh well... I reassembled the drivetrain on the trailer and got the wheel back on, mostly to make it much easier to get it into the workshop at home and to stop the oil dripping out from the diff, but with damaged threads there was no way I could drive it again before repairing the flange. Short day - only managed about 10 laps...

Guys there with a very nice Radical SR4 had a slipping clutch, so that was a pants day for them too. Norwegian chap with a real 1960's Abarth TC 1000 Corsa also had drive flange issues, so couldn't run it much. Not the best day out really!!

Bad news drew. Mine was not quite as bad. Took mine for a spin and it started raining as per the norm it seems when I get it out. And someone must have left a bright blue paint on the road as it was all over my near side wheels, tyres and body. Neighbours think I am mad. Washing a car In the rain.
Oh well all do e now and tucked up in garage.

Elite have always been very good, I used them years ago, and the technical knowledge was spot on back then.
Don't know anyone who has a bad word to say about them.

Sorry to hear your woes Drew, not much fun when tech lets you down...

Mark, I've never used Elite before and as I said they didn't inspire me when I checked it in but I was very happy in the end. I can see me going back as and when I change the wishbones which is inevitable I fear in the long run.
