Morning Drew, enjoy you day testing and hopefully we will speak later. Mercian has contacted me and she is still coming which is great news. May need you to send the pass to her as I spilt wine over my chrome book and now it will not work and the pass is on there. I'll let you know when we talk.
Great news Newton....some Brunty fun coming up.
Good morning all.
Need to catch up Drew, what have you bought and which track?
Waiting to be picked up by a good friend in his Caterham for a day at Harewood Hill Climb. Those that saw me at Newby Hall, he came along with me in the Maser and still had his 'cage' on his leg...now off after a year so it will be the 7's first long run.
Afternoon.... Today didn't go exactly as planned.
To start with, I struggled to get any heat into the tyres, so it was swapping ends all the time. Much too hard a compound for the temperature perhaps.
Then, someone stuffed his car and the circuit was closed for a little while - all completely cold again. Went back out and drove a couple of careful laps looking to get some grip before I gave it all the beans. Just as the tyres were starting to work, I discovered it was extremely squirrely under braking for the chicane on the long straight, but then I'd braked much harder than before, and perhaps the brake balance was too much to the rear. Felt fine coming out under power, and through the next two left handers it felt 'wrong'.... By the following right hander, I'd decided something was certainly wrong, and had slowed to come into the pits just after the corner. Didn't make it - spun it again at around 30mph, mostly because it only had three wheels by then, with the left rear drive shaft having stripped the bolts and made a bit for home on its own. Not ideal... However, could have parted company at much higher speed, which would have been more of a pig to collect.
So Mike.... It's an ADR Sports 1000. There are some pictures further back in the thread... Good job I couldn't get an entry into Harewood this weekend, as I'd have been running the car there at full chat up the hill when it let go, I guess, and it's not famed for large run-off for most of the track.
Hats off to the marshalls at Blyton, who loaded the car onto my trailer in a matter of minutes, and found all the bits. Slightly less hats off to them, as they damaged my wing whilst doing it. Oh well... I reassembled the drivetrain on the trailer and got the wheel back on, mostly to make it much easier to get it into the workshop at home and to stop the oil dripping out from the diff, but with damaged threads there was no way I could drive it again before repairing the flange. Short day - only managed about 10 laps...
Guys there with a very nice Radical SR4 had a slipping clutch, so that was a pants day for them too. Norwegian chap with a real 1960's Abarth TC 1000 Corsa also had drive flange issues, so couldn't run it much. Not the best day out really!!
