Is that the hydraulics that have leaked out, though? Is it going to need bleeding?

C

It's the gearbox cooler, it has bent back on the bracket and the oil pipes (return and delivery) have been detached from the cooler. Fix is to bend the bracket back to original position, remove the cooler, reweld the pipe connectors, reattached pipes and then fill with 75W90 GL5 oil.

How many times have you been pulled with that plate

My MX5 came with a plate

M33 EAL

Just realised with some bolt jiggery it's MR BEAL

I'm going to be rich beyond my wildest dreams

So I get the opportunity to join this thread.

Yesterday on the M1 up to see friends in Yorkshire for the weekend, developed a misfire on the motorway. Pulled off at Barnsley and she cut out at the roundabout. Started reluctantly, every warning light known to man illuminated, and ran like a tractor; smell of burning wasn't a good sign. Found the first place to pull over pulled the bonnet and found one of the coil packs had burned out.

Called the RAC and must say they were very efficient. Patrol van was with us in double quick time. The RAC man took one look and declared it was a VW (swear filter redacted the abbreviation for Volkswagen Audi Group - go figure) coil pack and he had a spare on his van. He did, the body was the same but unfortunately the connectors were different. Cue frantic phone calls, on a Saturday afternoon, around all the motor factors he could think of. Sadly he drew a blank.

Our friends will be dropping us back to London, luckily they will be heading that way anyway, and the QP will be making its own way down to McGrath's.

This has been my first time in over thirty years of driving Italian cars that I've broken down on the road. The RAC man told me shipping the QP to McGrath's will probably cost them around £900 in storage and delivery. I guess they've had their money from me over the years.

I had exactly that happen to me on the M1 with my black QP, on the afternoon of New Years Eve, on our way to a party up North. To make it worse, I then managed to lock the keys in the boot while trying the "disconnect the battery trick" (before diagnosing the problem as a coil pack). That meant we had no luggage, so no clothes for the party. Wife very not happy!

AA man took me to a local hire car place while the wife and kids waited at the motorway services. They then delivered the QP back to Emblem while we continued our trip in a tiny cheap box (my brain has blanked out exactly what).

OH well, at least it's a simple fix. Ewan, does the QP not have the same boot release cord as the GT?

My cars first trip on a low loader... :(

Currently at Giallo awaiting a new F1 pump, serves me right for not changing the relay sooner!

Unfortunately not. If your keys are in the boot, you're stuffed. I got back in by using the spare set I had back at home (200 miles and 2 days later).

Our story wasn't as traumatic as yours but I'm still getting the black looks from the missus.

I was going to say: it's funny how these things always seem to happen Saturday afternoons, or New Year's Eve, inconvenient times when normal parts suppliers are not available - but then, I guess this is the nature of these cars, they tend to be used for high days and holidays. If your Vauxhall Insignia is going to give trouble it will probably be 8:30 on a Monday morning heading to the area manager's team meeting.

Off it goes ...

Followed almost immediately from Vodafone Automotive asking if everything is alright with the car because its alerted as moving with the ignition off. "No, everything's not alright, its on the back of a lorry heading to the garage. I am aware though so you can stand down the alert".

Well impressed with the recovery truck though. Drive it on flat and then it hauls the lot onto the back. No embarrassment about having the car visible on a trailer either ;)

Think you might get the prize for 'newest car on the back of a low loader' (if there was such a thing!).

That is the second time. I didn't see the first one as I was on my way north in the hire car before it turned up.
