Just booked LeShuttle for Jeanette and my return to Blighty on Saturday 7th October, seems a long way off but it is screaming towards us ever quickly!

FYI don't try and use Tesco clubcard boost vouchers as they are only valid for outbound trips from Folkstone or return trips! Still managed to get it for £73.

I'll be going 4.5hr ferry from Le Havre/Portsmouth.

£100 each way I suspect.

Leaves at 5pm and gets into Pompey at 21:30 on Sunday 1st Oct.

Portsmouth closer than Dover for me. What's the benefits of each? If you miss the 5pm Ferry you're stuffed.... Google says 9 hours from Carcassone to Le Havre and not much more to Calais so you'd have to leave by 7am for either say to give bit of contingency. Is that the plan?

With apologies for sticking my nose into something that is none of my business - I think you may struggle to do that journey in 9 hrs. Possible if absolutely everything goes smoothly - in my experience of driving through France it rarely does. Throw in a petrol stop or two, maybe a personal break, checking in at ferry terminal, etc.

Given the French are cracking down on speeding and now have access to the DVLA I wouldn't want to be in a rush to make a 5pm ferry. At least you'll be missing the worst of the holiday traffic but I would suggest you leave the South much earlier than 7.

If anyone wants it I will be letting the ferry go at noon tomorrow.

I was thinking the same thing. Decided to go for Zeebrugge/Hull ferry on the Monday night and probably stay somewhere east of Paris on Sunday - perhaps Epernay.

Want to take in the Millau viaduct as well while we are down there so that adds a bit to the journey.

Push on a bit further and you have the Hotel Val-Moret outside Troyes. Hotel is basic, but the food is sensational
