Frank, Newton and I had our planning meeting last night and a route with stops has now been identified.

The Airport for other halves to fly into will be either Barcelona or Barcelona Girona on Thursday 28/9/17

More details to follow as we will commence hotel negotiations shortly.

Also, EnzoMC had dropped out so we have a spare place, Rob Stannard will be offered it but anyone interested should make it know here.

That's the least you need to worry about as Matt said! I think I'm more concerned about how many ditches there are within an hour of Santander! Rob tie a ribbon around your right bollock in order to remember which side they dress to in Spain!

You will all be receiving an email requesting a payment for all your hotels/board plus a 15-20% surcharge to cover any unforeseen booking costs which will be fully refunded at the end of the trip.

Cost are for the 9 nights, Bed, Breakfast and evening meal for the first night plus the Gala Meal on the last night in Carcasonne:

Single (per person): £850

Twin (per person): £600

Double (2 persons): £1,150

Route details are almost confirmed, its just the final few days where we will be staying 2 nights on the coast between Barcelona and Girona plus the final night in Carcassonne and the Gala meal:

Friday 17:00: Depart Portsmouth on Brittany Ferries Cap Finistere, cabins included - PAID
Saturday 17:00: Dock Santander, 80m/2hrs to Hotel Parador, Picos de Europe
Sunday: Hotel FG, Logrono
Monday: Hotel FG, Logrono
Tuesday: Hotel Edelweiss, Ordesa
Wednesday: Hotel Paraline, Andora
Thursday: Lloret de Mar TBC
Friday: Lloret de Mar TBC
Saturday: Carcassonne & Gala meal TBC
Sunday: END - Return home via the crossing of your choice, self arranged and paid.

We have 1 or possibly 2 places available for a car and 1~2 members per car so please contact me if you would like to attend.

Cost works out at:
£1250 for a single person travelling in a car
£1600 for a couple/pair travelling in a car

Costs included, ferry and one car, cabin plus 9 nights B&B in 3 star or higher hotels, evening meal on the first night, gala meal on the last night.

Costs are costs and no money is taken for the organisation.

Return ferry is down to the individual to arrange and pay for.

We will be in Lloret de Mar from mid afternoon on the Thursday so loved ones can be flown in to Girona or Barcelona, both are close with Lloret de Mar slap bang in the middle.

Also, I have just bagged a 5 star spa hotel (Thanks Dan!) for the Thursday and Friday night, B&B with complimentary cocktails, private terrace and bar, spa use and ring fenced parking here:

It should have been £350 for the 2 nights without the extras and have negotiated us a rate of £265 for the 2 nights plus all the extras.

The owner, Felipe Rigat, is a car nut and racing driver and also runs a local car club so there might be a tie up with them too. We are working on it.

So far, hotels are all booked up with the exception of the last night in Carcassonne and the Gala meal.

Its shaping up to be an amazing trip guys and girls...and one space remains for a lucky couple! (cost for 2: ferry, cabin, hotels, breakfast, dinner first night, gala meal last night, 10 nights £1500)

Newton, Crofty, Dan! - What are your thoughts? Ideally for my wife would probably be Flying to Barcelona from Gatwick on Wed. However Girona is possible on Wed as well but means getting to Luton which is a PITA. No flights to Girona on Thursday as far as I can tell. Wednesday has the added advantage of a bit more "holiday time"!

We did find flights on the Thursday to Barca on either EJ or RA for next to nothing.

No point getting there Wed as we wont be there and no rooms are catered for neither that night for other halves.

Jeanette should be out on the Thursday to Barcelona airport, probably Stanstead Ryanair as she can get there by train easily. Also I'll be taking her luggage in the car so she will only travel with hand luggage. SteveM is flying his lady out too but I believe she is flying from Gatwick.

Louise will be flying out. She normally goes to Barcelona and I puck her up from there. Just be aware, late afternoon traffic out of Barcelona is heavy. It took me 50 mins to get there and 2 hours to get back with her landing at 5pm on a Thursday.

Girona is probably a better option and a bit closer. But, I believe you can't get there from Stansted, only Gatwick. But I haven't checked recently.

Looks like stansted to Barcelona is the only option from London airports. And fairly reasonable prices.

As Matt suggests, perhaps get them on the same flight if possible and share a cab. €100 maybe?

As with any Ryan Air flight the prices go up fast so for the sake of £27.99 I would book it now as they will be £100 before you know it.

Taxi to the hotel is 60m so £100/4 is only £25 a head so your talking £50 with the flight.

How far would you get with that on a train in the U.K.?

Flight purchased for Jeanette; £28 Ryanair, Stanstead 12.45 to Barcelona, no bag as I'll take that ahead with me. We are planning a week on the Med from the Sunday This will be my longest holiday in 37 years!!!!
