The beach (Levante ironically) at Benidorm is one of the most stunning white soft sanded beaches I've ever been on. It's a shame that when you turn around you see the shite that is the high rise flats of Benidorm and the scum who walk the streets :D

Indeed it is, this chap ran out of the bar we were in and face planted and did not move for nearly an hour.

He loved the beach so much he ate a load of it.

This Spain trip certainly wont be this type of affair....but Hodroyd is going so you never know if he's going to misbehave.

Thanks for the tips guys, keep em coming.

I dont want to move hotel even day, keep it to say 3 or 4 max so you get a couple of days in each hotel.

Cool. I am getting good tips as well. I am now going end of April. But heading west rather than east towards picos de europa.

I was going to head to San Sebastián. But as you quite rightly pointed out staying there is expensive. Where would you recommend nearby that I could stay that would be cheaper and better?

My Mrs is off to Barcelona this weekend, primary to do something health and safety ish with a small Woking Company but I'm sure she could check something out on her travels...

Leon see my post with pics a couple of pages back

But that is a 4hr drive away!

I was hoping for nothing more than 1hr so we can at least spend a day or more in San Sebastián but not have to stay there.

Here is the 'play area' we will be exploiting, mountain driving and local culture:

Start: Santander
End: Montpellier/Carcassone/Beziers

just been map googling some of the roads in the Pyrenees - oh wow

also look for the Top Gear road "Pico de Veleta" they did but that's out of our play ground

One place we should avoid is Aragon during the MotoGP racing on the first weekend (24th). It's southeast of Zaragoza
