Was there another car manufacturer you were really into before Maserati?

One thing that is clear about most (all?) members on this forum is a passion, not just for their car, but for the brand and all its history.

But I was wondering whether there is/was another car manufacturer that you have/had a similar passion for before you go into Maserati?

Clearly, there is a great deal of passion for Alfa Romeo in some quarters - another brand with great history that has produced some iconic cars.

For me it is Lotus. I have had quite a few, from a 1960s Elan to a Lotus Evora S. For me, the best of the lot was a V8 Esprit that I owned twice. However, I have somewhat fallen out of love with the current iteration of the brand due to some very poor experiences with the Evora, and a real lack of support from the company and the dealer network.

I would be interested to hear about brands others are passionate about, and if anybody has had a similar interest in Lotus.

Porsche for me, I owned a 1986 911 Carrera for 6 years before the Maserati.
I have to say I much prefer the Maserati.
Here she is at Spa.

In my younger days mine was......Mitsubishi of all things. A Lancer turbo, Starion turbo, Sapporo turbo, another Starion turbo and Sue, at the time, had a Mirage turbo. Later I had a yellow Evo 5 and I still have a Lancer turbo in the garage which hasn't been used for a few years. I used to have them because they were reliable, powerful and cheap. Happy days!

I'm beyond saving mate, but if I had my time again, I'd do the same thing again. However, you have broadened my horizons Frank; someone who like Shitroens giving grief to another car maker. Unbelievable!

Alfa has always been my first love, I tried to count them up a few years ago but once I started to approach 100 I thought I best stop.

I did however have a brief foray with Opels, I had a few Asconas including a genuine 400 which was traded for a Manta 400 & then Kadett GTE Coupe even had a an Opel GT like Matts. These lead me into a number of ex rally cars, 2 HS Chevettes one being a DTV team car, a Nissan 240RS, a works Lotus Sunbeam, and various Twin Cam Escorts Mk1 & 2 (I wish I still had them).

Favourites of the time were the Kadett GTE and a Coralla AE86 Coupe (jewel of a 1.6 Twin Cam engine)

Bikes really not so much cars until the mid 90's but secretly I've always loved Maseratis over all other car makes. I had the privilege of working on many beautiful cars over four years with zymol and many worth 6 and 7 figure amounts but strangely I prefered this marque above all others. The only thing more ironic was I was looking for a Ferrari when I discovered I could afford a Maserati and that it would be much better value for money!

Take no notice Frank...I have loved the DS since I saw my first in 1973 and noticed the lights moving as it was parked...I was only three.

Love my 2cv too...slow and bouncy but it goes on and on and reminds me of happier times and old loves lived and lost...almost a tear in my eye...so just for Bennys sake

Same here. Not had that many, but I fair few. In honesty, I'd probably still be driving them if they made anything that I wanted these days. Shame that :)

Not entirely sure....can't quite put my finger on it.....always loved pure form/design.........as you mentioned cutting edge and very easy on the eye.....ultimately something different from the herd....

The only other car I've ever loved was a Triumph TR-6. Had so much fun driving it and working on it.
