What car should I buy?

08-11 Audi A4
05-08 Merc CLS 500
08-10 Jag XF

Plenty of contenders, if it was me, I would stretch the budget and bag a ZF QP. Significantly more smiles per mile :)

Dear all. Great input! Thanks.

The Ford has been a good car. It is a Y reg and nothing works. But the engine and drive is good. It is a 1.8 so has a little umpffff. Which is good.

I have looked at a Focus ST. As the body shape and internal room is good.

I hadn't considered a Golf or BMW series 1 or 3. So will look into them.

I offered a Jag XF as I think for value for money they are superb. The depreciation is massive so for £10k I could get something very nice. In fact there is a supercharged one for sale near me at just over 10k!!

But alas wife thinks the Jag is too flash, hence no Maserati either. I won't go into the details, but been there done that almost got burnt but managed to escape with my body parts intact.

I liked the Volvo. The XC60 has great reviews. But again wife doesn't want a Chelsea tractor.

Is a Seat reliable? I haven't really thought about that.

As for the Alfa - do I really want to run an Italian as a family daily? Whilst it isn't expensive I would care more about it than I really would want to. I want to be able to park it next to the trolleys in the supermarket (as I know my wife will).

I mentioned the Volvo v40 Ho-Yin, not the XC60! The v40 has a Focus chassis and so handling is great. Much better built than the Ford and has a cool chic about it in a Scandinavian way.

Wouldn't the World be a ****** nasty place if our everyday choices and ones as personal as "car ownership" (a man's right BTW) were governed by our wives?

I think you need a new wife not new car :D

You would be right if I was buying a car that would be used by me daily. I would have ditched her in a second.

Thing is it will be her car and I will avoid stepping foot in the abomination as much as humanly possible. So I really don't care what she has. I fact I think I might reduce the budget down to £5k so I can spend the other £5k on my new car .....

Is that better now I have clarified my position.

Sorry. That autotrader link didn't work for me. Just took me to their general home page.

Good shout. I went past one today and thought it might be a good car.

I have just changed my 3 series to an X3 and the 3 series needs a new home if you are interested in a 320i Diesel?
Lovely car in all ways. Let me know if you would like a link to the web-site?
Thanks

Problem with Italian is that it always seems to me you gave a 50 / 50 chance of a good one.......or should that be 20 / 80 . I wouldn't have another Alfa as an everyday car...Burnt too much in the past...When they are good they are amazing but when they aren't they are just shocking. Plus the quality of materials used against others is just poor....The only Alfa I really, really loved was my V6 GTV.....They ain't topped that yet.
