Couldn't agree more, Wack. The Audi A8 I have as the courtesy car is a lovely *lovely* thing. I'm way happier than in the 911

Gallardo. For sure. You only live once.

You can compare a GTS MC Shift with a Gallardo.

Wouldn't go near a DB9. For me it is a compromised car b

430. Everyone has one.

Must admit I don't really get the 2 seater strad thing. 4 seater strad makes sense as its a lighter more powerful GTS which is an awesome GT car, but big money for your budget. If you don't mind the running costs a 430 is a safe place depreciation wise but I'm not that keen on the mid engined ferraris of recent times (360's onwards). so out of your list for 50k I would probably go GTS MC Shift and probably have some change left over.

GTS MC shift, plus you'll have 10-20k in change. Put an x-pipe and a set of sports cats on it and you'll be away!!
Is the Strad worth the 20k premium?
Gallardo and 430 at the price point you mention are rare/tired/poor/knackered, though you can't argue with the sense of occassion!
Porker wouldn't do it for me.
Vantage that has been tuned and fettled may be an option though??

Thing is IMHO the GranSport can hold its own with most if not all the cars on your list.

1. I can't see myself ever changing my GS MCV for a GT

2. V8 Vantage is underwhelming after a GS, drove a DBS and couldn't get on with it, so to do the Aston thing would want to save up and get a V12 Vantage S.

3. Love the look of the Gallardo and have considered it myself but came to the conclusion it would be like having the 308 and Jalpa sat next to each other - Jalpa hardly ever gets driven as the 308 is so much better to drive.

4. Great choice, personally I prefer the 360 over the 430 both in terms of looks and lack of switches on the steering wheel. My choice would be (actually the choice I have made) is a manual 360 Spider preferably in a colour other than red, with Daytona seats, factory shields and challenge wheels. Epic car the longer I have it and the more I get to know it the more I like it and having the iconic open gate gearshift in a relatively modern car is very special. There is a big BUT and that is if I had to sell either the 360 or the MCV, I would probably keep the MCV and also of course 360 prices have risen a fair bit and doubt you would find a decent manual 360 Spider for £50k.

Interesting! The Turbo a bit intimidating?

:D

In honesty, sort of. You needed to concentrate (or maybe I just needed to spend more time in the car) as it could get far too fast without you really noticing. Or being excited.

I didn't find it very comfortable. The steering was 'odd'. It sort of wobbled every time it hit a bump. Which round here is all the time. I had no emotional attachment to it.

Think I was being optimistic with the Gallardo/F430 being in the £60k bracket, having had another look last night I can see that they start around the £75k mark. It'd be achievable but not this year.

The problem with me is that I have a long list of cars that I want to own, a bucket list of sorts, and I'm keen to get them ticked off. They could be worse drives than the GS but I won't know until I own one. Driving one for a half day is all well and good but it never compares to actually living with it. One mans pleasure is another mans poison, and all that.

The GS is a fantastic car and I'd love to keep it, as well as get the next car but I don't think SWMBO would let that swing....

I used to own a 4.2 Quattro , I loved every minute I was in it, apart from the trips to the petrol station, you can tell the mpg of a car when the only worn button is the one that opens the filler flap.

I've got a similar decision to make, not in the 60k bracket, I think the yeti is going but the decision is
Keep the yeti and sell the 4200 for a QP

Or keep the 4200 and replace the yeti, problem is Mrs wack likes the driving height of the yeti , since her illness it's easier to get into.
Yeti is worth about 6k and I could add 10k to either deal once I've sold a house

Just to add further confusion to you decision, I had a 3200 (we dont talk about that), a GS, then a GTS then a 4200 Spyder and now back in a GS.

The problem is, you try and move up the ladder, carwise, but you keep thinking about your old GS and how its as good as the more expensive, higher depreciating car you have now.

Its a conundrum!

They are fantastic cars and I bet if it were on the rise you would never consider selling it???

I really enjoy the process of looking, deciding, finding and buying a car. As soon as I own the car I start thinking about what I'm going to get next, it's a disease! I have repeatedly considered changing the GS as I've owned it for a few years, but I simply cannot find a car I would replace it with. Perhaps it's because it's such a distinctive and personalised car to me, but every time I drive it I absolutely love it! I've looked at all sorts - considered a GTS and more recently a Stradale, but I don't want to part with the GS. I could buy a Strad to sit alongside the GS as the 2 best examples of each model of car, but fear I would favour one over another and never drive one of them which would be pointless. First world problems! I think for the time being I will stick with the GS and the Ghibli - also a great car that I'm lucky enough to have the pleasure of driving every day.

Has 2 Aston Vantages and they are great to look at but felt performance was lacking and the stupid valve on the exhaust annoyed me (closed until you hit certain revs and no manual override). Lambos are a no no for me - too much of a statement and I would get laughed out in around where I live. Mixed feelings on the Ferrari 430 and 360. Would love to drive them but not sure I would want to own one. Alfa 8c spyder is one my shopping list but prices are above list and I don't think will ever come down.

This is very true. There is a constant thrill of the chase (lots of research, shortlisting, final choice, collection etc.) followed by thoughts of what is next. Eventually if you are lucky, 2 years on you are still settled with something that you are not thinking of changing, but then you start thinking of adding a second toy alongside it and justifying the expense. If you're lucky enough to get to the 2 toy situation, one car gets less use and that either triggers reconsideration of car number 1 and the whole cycle of fun (and expense) starts again!

Life is too short...
If it was my choice I would get the 430. Why, you would lose nothing if you buy right and after a year or so you could try one of the others ticking two boxes off your to-do lists.

All the others are likely to loose more esp the Astons and in some way the Maser too.
