To pull it back on topic...

What do I do...?

Used to be a pilot, now I'm a Consultant Engineer, and run an automation engineering consultancy...

So, in a roundabout way in the past I have:

Stopped aircraft hitting the ground
Ensured other airborne things did hit something (usually the ground)
Kept the lights on in UK and USA
Laid cables on the seabed
Drilled for oil
Sorted the post
Played with the field in supercooled-superconducting magnets (done this on and off for 25 years...)
Purified the sparkles to put in paint and lipstick
Measured lots of things
Made tyres
Made beer
Cleaned beer kegs
Stacked shelves for Ocado & Amazon
Shifted bags at airports

Latest interest is helping a global drug dealer avoid being compromised...

Usually my job is to think about how to do those things, but sometimes it's fun to get the hands dirty too.

I live in Maidenhead with my wife, two kids and a cat. I am a self-employed Software Manager currently working at Sky on the video streaming/buy & keep/ rental services that are on the Sky Box, Web, Android, iOS, Roku, YouView and other connected devices.

I've been a petrol head from birth, my father took us all to track days in the 70s where he raced his Healey Silverstone. I was a TVR man but been stuck with the same Maserati for 7 years now, my son wants to take his test in it. I do have plans to buy something else just as soon as I've sorted out the new property.

Hi all,
I'm 49 with the big 50 looming mid next year. Live on the Derbyshire Dales/ Peak District border on the outskirts of probably Britains greenest City, Sheffield. Worked for almost all of my 34 years of working life so far within the Military, still associated being in the Reserve forces. Currently idle though and thinking of needing to get out and earn a crust as savings have severely dwindled since having the 3200 and Range Rover! Always been into cars and had some nice V8's and V12's.
Met up with a few guys at a Northern meet earlier in the year (need another one) and at Silverstone. Single with car and watch fetish

Small, small world! At least three of us on here are in roughly the same business, Nick. It's quite possible you work with my company's software, too. I'll PM you next time I'm over in the vicinity of Sky and hopefully we can get a coffee and talk about cars.

Incidentally, it'll be a cold day in **** when either of my sons take their driving tests in my car!

I am young, handsome and have a GSOH ....

Oh wrong forum.

Thought I would resurrect this thread and seek some networking opportunities!

Whilst I am not in the same business as any of you I see we have some work crossovers.

If you are at the Sky Campus I was responsible for the new SKY Hub building and their master plan.

I am a partner in a London architectural practice and live in Surrey.

Strangely I wasn't really into cars that much until I decided to buy my first car! Started researching into what I wanted and then things got a bit silly!

I am a bit of a sports freak as well. Love swimming and cycling and so I do triathlons. Have completed 3 Ironmans so far.

Always up for a meet up and socialising.

"Made beer" sounded interesting!

Ah - for all those 'events' you need to thing a little bit laterally...

"Made beer" means I designed controls systems for a couple of major breweries, including brewing the beer, putting it in cans or kegs, having a really big robot pick, sterilise and place widgets in the cans, and eventually pack all the stuff onto pallets.

Interesting, and I don't even drink beer.

I'll begin by saying "I have a very particular set of skills" -Liam Neeson :)

I'm 28, live in Northern Ireland, qualified Cardiac Physiologist and work as a Director of Sales. I owned a Fitness consultancy and sold it to work at the same decision making level but with a reliable income.

The short story to all this, is that the job I do is irreverent to my background bar particular skills; attention to detail etc etc. I recommend watching the Wolf of Wall Street before applying for senior roles, I did :)
