hello, now i understand alot of people on here dislike this car, but i like it very much and hope i can bring it back upto scratch, it has had alot of money spent on it, it will possibly require a new engine, not sure yet, it appears the water pump has seized and thrown the belt.

i managed to get in contact with the owner, and he done a good part exchange on my old car, so thought it was worth going for it :)

Beau.....if after doing a lot of reading and researching you make a decision, then its fine by me.

Is this a "wrapped" 3200?

Give us a fuller run down on it, what else needs doing

its fully painted, inside & out and very good condition

as far as i know it just needs a top end rebuild.

does anyone know if its possible to 'diy' check for crank walk issues, dont fancy fixing it all to find out there is an issue, apparently ran ok before belt went

also is it possible to get the heads off with engine in situ?

White is an in colour at the moment and Maserati did offer the 3200 in I think it was called Bircage white so this could be the colour of your car. I am not sure if you can take the heads off inistu but you could ring one of the independents one this site and they will be able to tell you. It won't be easy, and not a job to take on unless you have the experience. Best of luck, I hope you get her sorted so you can enjoy the feeling of the twin turbos coming in.

does anyone know of a private plate for sale suitable for the car? il spend upto around £300, looking for something with mas, 3200, gt, etc? (not all these on the same plate obviously lol)

and yes i know its not even running yet, but this is something which could take a while to find, engine parts are more readily available.

it appears to have been looked after well, and has lots of reciepts, its recently had 2 brand new front suspension actuators (bill was £1500) and its also had the throttle body reconditioned (bill was £700)

it had a diagnostics test done in march this year, and the only fault that came up was the abs ecu, i dont know if this has been fixed or not yet.

Beau

If you look on the DVLC site there were some registrations like AC11 MAS for sale for around £400 a few weeks ago.

Spooky!

Passed this car on the back of a low loader Yesterday afternoon on the A1 going south around Darlington.

Good luck with it.

well this is the culprit of all the troubles... :)
IMG_1040.jpg

what im rather surprised about is (and i do have alot of experience in cam belts) how good condition the belt is, no signs of wear at all, but its just snapped, makes me think maybe the belt had a manufacturing defect, the water pump was leaking, but still spins feely so i doubt that was to blame for it actually snapping, if only this minor water leak had been traced earlier, but then again if it had- i wouldnt own the car now would i :p

you can clearly see the pump has been seeping for some time and the belt has thrown the water around behind the cambelt cover

there are at least 8 bent valves that i can see so far, hopefully not many more.

It will not be a defective belt or tensioner/idlers.
It will be down to being fitted incorrectly.
Have been involved with Gates over the years who are the major players in cam belts and its always down to incorrect fitting if the pump and all other components in serviceable condition.
