Beach Head works for me.

We can do a Vulcan private tour, it will cost £25 a car or so but it is doable as all funds raised go towards the maintenance.

Anyone fancy it?

If its base is in Doncaster, how can you have a tour of it in Beachy Head? Does it land (with a suitable long runway there), just for refuel and tours?

I have seen it many times, it flies over Newbury often as the pilot has a link with a local radio club here.

They have been saying it is the final flight for ages but I'm not convinced as they have reduced the stress on the airframe and also just used the last engine shelf spare so it is good for maybe another two seasons and I am hoping it will be at Fairford this year and Farnborough next year at least.

Why don't we all meet at Bournemouth air show on sunday 23rd August to see it this year?

A Vulcan was the first aircraft I ever marshalled and I've seen a fair few since then. One last time at Bournemouth would be good though Phil.

Does someone want to look at arranging a forum tour as per mike's link above in sunny Doncaster? I am all up for Bournemouth too.

There also one at Gaydon in Warwickshire,we had a good look around it a couple weeks ago with the AROC boys...
They even cracked up the auxiliary systems and opened the bomb doors!
Even went into the cockpit, its tiny, god knows how the crew of 5 lasted 15 hours in there over to the Falklands as there's no room to move

Then there was the frightening Microwave armament systems up in the tail to get your head around..

It was a fantastic day out

I'm up for Bournemouth too, the problem is that it never lands at Bournemouth Airport otherwise I'd try to arrange forum trip to it.
I'm up for a group trip to Doncaster too

The Doncaster visit is really well worth doing - excellent facility for the Vulcan there.

If we do that trip, then we could potentially include a Blyton Park track event, or a karting event at the biggest track in the UK (so they tell me), which is also just off the A1. Would make it a more worthwhile trip perhaps to tempt a few more southerners into bringing their cars north of Watford Gap.

I'd be up for this. First saw a Vulcan at RAF Mildenhall as a 10 year old. The two things I remember from the day were the sheer noise of the Vulcan at take off and the speed of the SR-71 take off and fly past.

XH588 did a fly past Sywell Aerodrome a couple of years back, banked around my village so low the wing tip was below the roof line looking from my window. Very sad to see it go.

I was privileged to see the Vulcan last year at the Festival of Flight in Newcastle, NI.

Not as much a breakthrough moment as Concorde but my god we know how to build sh**.

We don't live far from Leeds airport and Concorde used to land there occasionally. Beautiful sight and what a noise. Also remember going to an air show at Mildenhall (I think) and a B52 taking off. That was incredibly noisy as well.

I'm a keen enthusiast and had built my own flight simulator (737) and I recall the day I saw AF1 as a teenager, amazing. More recently I saw AWACS and F22 Raptors flying in formation over UK on a flight to Rome.

When I lived in South West London I could hear the Concords taking off from Heathrow every morning despite it being over 25 miles from my apartment. In the early afternoon they would return and follow a route which seemed to mirror my high street...always made me look up.

As for the Vulcan, I recall as a small boy seeing it at RAF Binbrook with an escort of Lightning fighters...it made my internal organs shake in my body when they pulled up with afterburners on... WOW

My Vulcan story:

As a young boy I saw the Vulcan being displayed at RAF Finningley - an awesome sight and noise....

However, the awesome sight and noise was topped by my younger sister. She was in one of the Portaloos as the V-bomber came over the crowd at full power into a climb. The story as my dad publicly told it a couple of years ago at her wedding, was that she ran out with her knickers round her ankles, shrieking at the top of her voice, clearly heard over the Vulcan :D

I only remember the shrieking, but it was bl00dy funny all the same :)

It was even more fun taking off in Concorde as the speed and acceleration were amazing. It did not feel fast in flight though as there was no relativity.
