I’m not surprised, just appalled. Nobody could ever be proud of themselves for saying those things, particularly about a person who has died. It’s just awful ...
Just as a counterpoint, what about those royals who live in California now who have a contract with Netflix or some such?

There are posts which I have received quite a bit of communication on which I have removed.

For those that have quoted it, I suggest you edit your posts.

Very laudable Zep, but those posts should never have been made in the first place and #758 remained long after I first reported it.

This forum seems to have become a free for all where certain posters can say whatever they like without sanction; foul-mouthed rants, the repeated use of thinly disguised expletives, and the baiting of forum members has become the norm here. You lost one forum member recently, and if those posts had not been removed today I would have left too.

I well remember the demise of the original Maserati Forum (not related to this forum), and the same pattern is emerging here.

Lessons learned?

Thanks Phil.

I didn’t see a report from you, I assume you used the report button?

There is a code of conduct which will be published shortly, giving a stronger framework under which to judge situations like this. As has been said before, there is a fine line between free speech and over-moderation and while I wasn’t on the other forum, I understand it became quite heavily policed which put people off.

The mods don’t read all posts in real time, if something is posted late at night there may be a delay before it is looked at. In any event, we encourage everyone to think about what they post and know the line between banter and offence.

Hi Zep

Yes, I used the report button when that post first appeared and was very disappointed to see a follow up to it.

Decay of the original Maserati Forum began when criticism of forum sponsors and other content was removed. Loz and Matt then formed this forum and I joined it in the first couple of weeks, but in all honesty it now seems to be going the same way and that would be a shame; light-touch moderation is fine and clearly preferable when posters behave responsibly, but when posters do not know how to behave in a civilised manner, and set out to cause offence, the Mods must act or watch the forum die. That is not good for the forum, or for any associated business.

I like to see where possible free and open discussion. There are lines and we have mods to deal with this. However these mods have jobs, lives and cannot read every post in real-time or otherwise.

The report facility is there but will take time for someone to deal with. You cannot expect all posts to be read, also then dealt with as quick as what I feel your expectation levels are. It is just not realistic.

I feel often in the modern world many have become a little over sensitive, a little too PC, a little too closed minded in respect to others opposing views of course which they are entitled too the same as anyone else's.

Just because one person thinks it is wrong doesn't make it wrong. Also many opinions are subjective as there isn't a fact in all cases. We are also often never blessed with the full facts about things and often blessed with many incorrect facts about things which skews viewpoints either way. I keep a very open mind for this reason.

If you don't like someone's opinion you can ignore it, not reply and/or block them. This IMHO is not a solid and just reason to over moderate a forum. I want open honest and hard hitting discussions as I feel we often really get down and dirty achieving real results this way. Get it all out there warts and all. As long as it is not personal, or reactive and maintains a balanced line I see no issues.

If you want a nambie pambie forum that is afraid to discuss real issues and support all and any opinion then I don't want this to be it.
