No oil pressure today - possible oil pump failure!

Matt82, I said it could be one of two big problems but it seems you've got both...failure of the pump and failure of the drive gear. The rust at the shaft is a concern for the rest of us. Did you have any signs of leaking coolant or did you have to top-up coolant often? My guess is it's the rust that caused the shaft to seize/wear and the teeth to fail. If water can get in from the outside this is a major design flaw. An application of silicone sealant may be the solution for the rest of us because this failure is not cheap.

Well Done Matt.
That's now the second one I have seen.
Are you doing it in situ like I did ?
Yes, axle stands on the drive, the garage space is taken up by my long term rust bucket Mini project!
It’s certainly not easy getting the pump out, every bolt seems to need some special thought as to what tools to use. Not many occasions on this job where I’ve just picked up the ratchet

Yes, seems to be the case. Although I will have a good look and clean up of the female coupling first before firming up the conclusion.
I had no signs that it was going. Changed the coolant and thermostat as part of the service last year, done a few thousand miles since and not had to top up or seen any leakage

Yeah these cars are nearly 20 years old and it's going to be happening to a few more in my opinion.
Personally cars not being used are more at risk as if any coolant getting onto the oil pump shaft will stay there and corrode.
A car being used and getting nice and hot it will burn the coolant off.
I remember a post 10 years ago now when Emtrees failed about the weep hole being blocked and it was a good idea to keep it free of debris and spray some lube in there.
Problem is it ain't easily accessible.

Mine too done on the driveway August 2014.
The Garage firstly too small and full up ready for emigrating to NZ.
Once I got organised it wasn't a bad job.
I had bought the car to repair and sell to keep myself busy before the move and had 2 people on the forum wanting to buy it.
It was so good when finished I took it with me to NZ and I still keep in touch with the owner that has it now and tells me it's still perfect.
It was on a 110,000 miles when I sold it.
Driveway repairs :)

Sounds like a challenging job you've got there especially working under axle stands. Can't offer any advice but more than happy to pop over and help out should you need another pair of hands. ;)

Although I have managed to clean up the female coupling, I’m still not confident that the splines haven’t been damaged.
So, time to strip down the timing cover etc. to get the coupling and replace that as well!

It’s seems I will not be able to get a new pump. Eurospares and Scuderia car parts have both stated it’s discontinued and no stock available.
Does anyone have one in their shed?!
