Just wait until insurance companies (in cahoots with government) insist on ‘black boxes’, like they use for teenagers.
All of a sudden the EV party trick of instant acceleration will be heavily penalised due to excessive G forces! Never mind breaking speed limits, and being charged for that directly too. At that point all reasons for driving for ‘pleasure’ has gone. May as well be driverless by gps then, either take taxis or buy the cheapest possible ev fitted with a comfy reclining chair.
Although I guess they won’t need black boxes if your car is controlled by gps.
Strangely it seems a cultural thing. Telemetry boxes are popular in Italy for example and not just amongst the young. People have wanted them as they have lowered premiums for the average owner as insurers have significantly reduced fraud.

Yes but the Italians love conformity and regulation. They don't do anything spontaneous or outlandish

my sister and husband live in Italy and the price they pay for car insurance is much higher than the UK. It is driven by high levels of corruption, only paid for by the premiums that are paid (her Clio costs about the same as my QPV and she lives in a rural mountain location)

Makes sense and I don't think anyone will be surprised to hear it costs more in Italy. Even if telemetry boxes have generally reduced premiums it will still be relative.

I like the fact that you can sit at NNNmph , have a conversation without shouting with the passenger and then accelerate further to keep up with an FF...

We had Beethoven's 5th on in the car and were having a nice chat about EIS investing while we waited for you two to get up to speed.
