Don't do it Adam they are **** rust for a past time and there is no such thing as a Sport Ka.
They are RUBBISH.
Fail the MOT all the time and eat lower front wishbones.

Took a good look a couple of years ago at the small car market for the daughters drive. Started looking at the Ka - virtually every one we looked at had tin-worm issues somewhere. Ended up with a C1/Aygo/107 - great little cars, sod all power but the handling is really good due to the low weight. £25/year tax, easy 50mpg, plenty of room inside, insurance silly low comparatively. Bit noisy inside and that 3 pot takes some getting used to but I like them - often steal theirs lol. Got a brand new one with warranty for the price of most competitors second hand offerings.

Only real problem is they're as common as muck

Indeed Phil....you do not want to stretch your budget just to the buying aspect of car ownership....but also looking after it....so avoid anything that has a history of early wear and dodgy quality.

was going to look at a grey Sport KA at a dealer on saturday, it is described as MINT !!! might not bother now then.

And there is no way i am having an Aygo/C1/107, dont care how cheap it is to insure, i dont want one in the slightest.

Well having browsed the Ford Forums this afternoon, i am not prepared to take on the rust issues associated with the KA, at the end of the day it maybe a fun car but i dont want to be forking money out on a 6 year old car which needs rust attention. VW is built the best and also the most reliable, at the end of the day, that is what matters when you have a car on a budget.

Agreed Adam.....you do not want ongoing issues......got a mileage in mind, other places to buy from auction perhaps, why line the pockets of a dealer........plus way more exciting!!!!!

Don't exclude any options purchase wise just yet

Well on this Polo here......

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif.../page/1/radius/1500/postcode/cw25gg?logcode=p

i have been quoted £2700 fully comp for the year including breakdown cover however. Not bad really but at the moment i am working just 5 mins away from where my mum works and she wants to use here Mercedes less so i am not sure whether to go on her policy as a named driver and she can drive me to and from work and i use the car at the weekends????

if i went on her policy it would be £1300 for the year but i would not be able to earn a NCB.

If you just wanted to build up an NCB Adam...would go old banger for first 2 yrs...has an MOT and taxed, thats it.........but your mums option is a good one if cash restricted.

Yes i was thinking that, but the problem is if i get offered a job in another area, i will be a main driver of the Polo and not an additional driver so that is technically fronting so i would have to let the insurers know, my friends fronted their cars for the first year, got away with it but your screwed if you need to make a claim.

If i stay working in the local area then i will go fully comp next year, on that polo it would be £1900 with my mum as an additional driver, adding her brings the price down as she has 8 years NCB and no convictions.
