Never heard of this being a particular problem on the 3200.
I think there's a lot of rubbish posted about the 3200, often by those that have never owned one...doesn't help the Maserati marque one bit. I've got a 3200 and a 4200.... the 3200 has been faultless! Of course they suffer from neglect - and can cost a lot to fix if the previous owner has let things slip. There are an increasing number of cheaper maintenance solutions due in no small part to this forum (like the brakes) that make ownership a much less fraught experience. There are also an increasing number being broken, so there are more second hand options than there perhaps were a few years ago.
If an inspection gave this 109k mile 3200 a clear bill of health it could be a cracking car - looks good, and is only priced a couple of £k over 3200 scrap value.
Go in with a 6k cash offer if you get it then id say your alright, you can break it for close to that....
