Offers around the £7K mark i should imagine will be considered, ideal car for David Askew with his contacts , or someone who is knowledgeable and brave enough to do their own rebuild

I doubt it Adam , all depends on where you have it done , best is to get involved yourself , I should imagine a strip down check and rebuild with necessary parts, big end shells crank seals seals /gaskets etc would be around £2500 , matt took his out at home , sent it away to David Askew and then re installed .................... best way i reckon £3.5K max i would say

It could be a bit of a bargain then this car, providing you got it for the right price, a good AC is worth in the region of 16k, maybe more for a rarer colour.

Possibly Adam , bidding for a car like that with a known issue is one thing , but you also have to take into account ............ how many times has it over heated to cause the issue and what other damage might of been done , so its a bit of a gamble , if it was straight case of swapping out one head gasket (slim chance ), then yeah it could be a bargain to sell straight on , If it was to be a keeper , then it would be wise for any owner to have the confidence that everything else has been done, ie including the timing belts and chains as well as the necessary

Seen people advertise cars that have had rebuilds saying it costs 6 to 8k....take it that's main dealer.

That is why i thought a rebuild on this particular car may cost 6k depending on like you say, if it is a dealer or not or your prepared to do some prep work yourself.

Well if it needs 5k to put right you could go to 9k.....
Anything under 8k is a bargain.....A good AC is bout 17k....

The thing is as its not a cat car as long as it didn't cost more than 15/17k when all done thats what you would pay for a good AC anyway....

just thinking, not sure if its been done before, but could you stick a 4200 engine in a 3200?

Snazza, its been thought about but its not just the engine, its the ancillaries too.

The 3200 is wet sump, ie it holds its oil in the sump pan, where as the 4200 is dry sump, ie it has a separate storage tank for the oil, a bit like the coolant header/expansion tank. This is done to make the engine shorter so it will fit. The bonnet on the 4200 is very different, its humped to allow for the engine so I recon coupled with all the ancillaries, it just is not going to fit in the 4200 with out a lot of cutting.

If you were doing it, you would have to change the subframe, wiring (nightmare) and the bonnet.

The best way to do it would be to take the 4200 engine out on its subframe and drop the whole unit in

Then there is the small subject of the transmission/transaxle, only for the brave I feel.

Indeed Dem, if you look at the profile the GS is humped to take the taller engine...which they have had to dry sump to get it to fit, so its tight:

By far easier to convert the rear of a 4200 then swap engines.....
Shall we start a company doing it??

I have never been in a gransport but I prefer the 3200 engine, I just love the low down instant go!

Going back to the 4.7 thing, the easiest way to up the performance is with some Rotrex Superchargers. Probably looking at £3k to do that and you will be pulling circa 600HP.

You will also have to factor in the cost of a braking assist parachute.

Happy dayz!
