3200 for sale after short ownership

I'd have said it was an average price, but then at that sort of value there isn't much difference between bargain/average/top end! One thing to say with the 3200 in particular but to a certain extent any of the Maseratis, is that there are always cheap cars about but a particularly well maintained car that's had everything done will often sell quickly at a premium price....as it still works out cheaper than buying one that needs belts, clutch, brakes etc doing!

Spike..depends on condition and miles but unforunately it does seem to be the price for a good one...Most of the ones over that price are still for sale....Think is an AC is around 15k plus and there is a 4kish gap between the AC and a standard 3200

£4k sounds too much of a premium to me....been a few ACs (not just that black one!) that have really hung about even at low prices. As I say, I think it comes down more to colour/spec, mileage, and how the car has been maintained.....you can easily buy one at £12k and then have to spend £5k on it at the next service.

The car in question sounds well maintained and is one of the best colours (ok, I'm biased on the last point!).

For an 11 yr old 3200 with 61K miles.............................not far off it...!

Totally disagree with you Frank. I think you're making a comment about something you haven't looked at properly and know very little about, which to my mind is a dangerous thing for Maserati owners everywhere.

It has a full service history, has been serviced twice since June this year including a cambelt & tensioners etc.
It's had a recent health check from a reputable indie
All old MOTs to verify mileage and give provenance to the car
New rear tyres
Recharged aircon
Owner has workshop manuals available

This strikes me as a well-maintained car in a great colour combination which has had the right money spent on it - notice even the replacement exhausts for what look like stainless. All for sub-£12k. If I were buying another 3200 it would be high on my list of cars to view at that price.

Your comment conflicts with itself - 61k in 11 years is nothing and I don't get your point about the car's age? 3200s are and will be appreciating classics, whereas 4200 values are dropping to the point of little to no difference to 3200s. I believe especially early 4200 values to eventually drop lower than 3200s.

Careless throw-away comments made in ignorance on forums like these only serve to drive values lower. Whilst not bad for me as I'm looking to buy, it is not a good thing IMO.

I have absolutely no association with the seller btw.

MAF...had a browse through the other 3200s on the PH site................my comment stands..................based on those prices......sure there are a few above and a few below............and at these prices top end versus bottom end may only be 2 K or so.

They have gateway episodes, both in the mind of the buyer and the market.

First is year.................now over 10 yrs old.

Second is mileage......50 k ...then 60K...........people get sacred off.........cos if they can just about to afford to buy this car....can they afford 3 K to put something which broke wrong?...answer usually no.

Hence their value...............its been on sale for a while.......no takers.............now the seller is that despondent, he's prepared to SORN it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What does that tell you about the seller...the market AND any buyer?!

These are things the seller and market have decided......NOT MOI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We both have our opinions....................and they remain just that..........................ignorance aside....IMHO........:)

Agree Maf....a well services. looked after car is worth more as you wouldn't have to spend the money on it...But the plan fact is 3200's with this sort of miles just do not sell over 12k...You have just got to look at the classifieds.....

I think that the point is that there are few cars at that price that have had recent belts, exhausts, service, tyres etc. So, add £2.5k to the price of those that haven't....the grey one starts to look like striking value.

With the exception of one at 90k miles and one with 120k miles and a suspicious white wrap, the grey one is already the cheapest by over £1.5k - before you take into account maintenance.

It might not be a good one - I havent viewed it, but from a browse on PH it would be top of the list to view...

Having the work done to the car that you'd expect to have done are important.....they will make the car easier to sell..............................BUT.......not add true value to it.

Agree Frank....No matter what work is done there is a ceiling price..If a car needs a service etc then they would be looking to get the car cheaper than the ceiling price.......

Ok, you have two identical cars. Say one hasn't had a clutch recently, and will need belts, tyres and discs in the coming year. The other one has just had them all done but is £500 more.....which would you choose?! I'm not saying that you ever get the full return on the money spent and I do agree that a large factor is saleability, but on a Maserati good (and recent) maintenance DOES add value, by simple virtue of the cost of running and maintaining them.

As I said in my first reply, there isn't much difference between a low price and a top end price when you're only spending £12k, but this one seems to be woth looking at for someone in the market.

The market will out.......................lets not kid ourselves.......guys....the main reason we are driving Maseratis is precisely because of the reasons this car is at the top of its price range due to public/market perception AND worst of all as a few people on the board have discovered, when they go wrong.........its go have a chat with your bank manager time!!!

It will add value to a car say4/5 years old..........but now they are nearing the bottom of the value cycle......................nothing like the same effect...............thus why he cant sell it........!

Sorry, seeming argumentative today! But, I think it's precisely the opposite.....the concept of spending £2.5k in impending maintenance on a 4/5 year old £20k car is far more palatable than spending the same amount on a 10/11 year old £10k car.
