3200 Taste Police - Opinion Needed!

I am looking to refurb the wheels and brightwork on my 3200 and was after some expert opinion as the family is divided on this one.

I have a Nero Carbonio (metallic black) 3200 and there is tarnish to the chrome on the grill, the trident is heavily pitted and the wheel bolts are shot.

The road wheels also have slight corrosion around the centres and valves, and one is kerbed.

I could get the wheels blasted and powder coated in silver and everything else chromed, but...

I have an itch around finishing the grill in satin black and the wheels to match, or maybe the grill chrome and the wheels a dark metallic grey. Any thoughts? I don't want it looking chavvy.

Be assured however that the Trident and wheel bolts will be re-chromed. Period.

I promise NOT to do anything like this though:

He did say he was NOT going to do anything like the picture....

Regarding your suggestion of black wheels, I feel black wheels or even dark coloured wheels on a black car are too much.
Having the grill surround and mesh black, just with the trident chromed, could look quite striking though!

IMO, mercury wheels with black would look good, but I would stick to a chrome grille surround and trident.

Agree with Benny....mercury would be good or anthracite and still to chrome gril.

If you stray away from OEM spec on these cars they look sh!te. Keep it original, mercury wheels you might just get away with.

The front grill is stainless so take it to a polisher and should come up like new.

OK, I mean the grill surround, which is definitely chrome. I know this because mine has been polished through to the nickel underneath.

^^^ I'm with Dem, keep it OEM.

The wheekslook great with frsh paint in Anthracite, gunmetal or similar for that Assetto Corsa look.
Grill surround will re-polish and chormu up lovely. Fit bright stainless grill unless you have it already. Bit fiddly but worth it.
Good Luck.

btw original pic looks like rover 25 special edition BRM. Will be remembered in same category as Allegro Equipe!

BRM Formula cars were in fact BRG (there seems to be many interpretrations of what BRG actually is, all green but some very very dark) with an orange noseband.

when i was young my mate had a rover 200brm, and against its contemporaries it may have looked a joke to some, but it could shift and i think it had a lsd. I wanted one, but would have bough the 200vi, same vvc engine less orange

Gets better than that, the Trident is chromed alloy. Cheaper to buy a new one than get it plated!

So I've bottled it. Silver wheels, rechrome of the grill surround, and wheel bolts, new trident.
