I ran my 308 Dino on exactly that philosophy, worked a treat, only draw back is an annual check up will probably mean a couple of days off the road while bits are found so you might need spare wheels.

I paid £13k for it, it lived on the street in south London and was my daily smoker (yes I commuted to work in it) and ran up a good 25k miles. Spent about £3k over 18 months or so £1k of which was the diff rebuild when I bought it because it had been sat too long. Sold it for £12,500.

The M3 I was thinking about buying would have cost an extra £1k to insure (I was 24) and would have depreciated by at least £3k, and servicing wouldn't exactly have been free!!!

Of course a Kia Pride would be cheaper but it misses the point!!

Magic Paco.....a dyed in the wool petrolhead....:)...:)

Sod the cost......

Sod the extra unreliability...

Sod what the Ferrari owners club members might say....;)

If it made sense to you and you had a blast....brilliant!!!

When I buy a car that I yearn for I just can not put it in the garage and use at weekends ... It would have to be my daily transport ... Don't see the point other wise no matter what it is ....

agree andy, for example you see 3 year old f430's for sale with 5k miles on them i would put around 6k on it a year and that would include le mans and a visit to stelvio

Every car I've owned has been a daily drive .. Some a pain in the bottom to use everyday but I just couldn't leave in the garage.

A Merak as a daily car????????? When I had my 308GT4 my friend had a Merak which was forever in the garage for something. Make no mistake about it Maseratis of old were not the most reliable cars on the planet. To run a Merak daily takes some financial clout and a lot of patience but OHHHHHHHH I do love them

Compared to all the other classic Maserati's it just doesn't seem pretty enough to me.

Adam, I would agree with you on the Merak. If you visually 'tune out' the exposed 'C-pillars', the shape that's left ain't pretty. It goes all right anges behind the doors, whereas on the Bora the engine bay is enclosed enclosed and so the shape flows without interuption from front to back.
