It will be late Spring early Summer before my car is back on the road I think. It is currently stripped back to bare metal.....

GCR...any chance of some photos....before, during and after....or any other details/ history around the car.....?

To be honest the before pictures aren't really worth it as the car wasn't bad to start with. However the latch (and safety latch) on the front luggage compartment (or bonnet) failed and it flipped up damaging the scuttle and the repair to that has ended up morphing into a full bare metal respray as the whole front end had to be done anyway. The car was pretty rot free to start with but it will of course now be corrosion free and Shane has had cars at Pebble Beech et so it should look stunning.

I can look out the pics of it striped to bare metal if you would like and of course pics when it is eventually done but hopefully once it is vack on the road SM members will see it at some meets!

Oh BTCC is on the same weekend, bugger, i always go to the BTCC at Oulton, think i will be going to Auto Italia.

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on your point of view if our plans come off I will not get the choice! The Team Principal not turning up to a race meeting I think is generally frowned upon :))

Well assuming it is ok to post links to people who have done good work for us.... Shane is a top bloke, he has been very understanding about the fact I have had to put the project on hold and the work he has done for me in the past has been outstanding.

Have a look here, not the best website but I think it gives an idea of the quality of his work and he is more reasonable than you would imagine although not the cheapest either but you get what you pay for in this world IMHO

Tis an early one with the SM oval dash etc. Not as nice inside as a later one which had the Bora dash.

Late on this thread (been staying off the computer lately) but I think the sentiments are that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

With cars I feel it comes down to what we grew up with and my age bracket puts me in the the bunch that like 70's designs. I think both Merak & Bora are great looking. The Bora has more menace from the higher haunches, whereas the Merak a little more dainty with those butresses. Without which it would look strange, but a design truimph in terms of leading the eyes away from the notchback to a more flowing line. Again the 60's brought us some wonderful designs, my favourite the Miura, or the Ghibli all done before the age of drag figures etc. What flowing shapes with slender pillars that didn't block the view of the drivers as modern cars do ( I know it's all for safety, but I'm a short ****).

All out there for folk to enjoy (or otherwise). Take the example of those who are members of the Austin Allegro club, or the Princess club........

See I really like the Merak .. Its just the right size for a sport cars ... Is the Bora bigger .. Looks bigger.

They are the same length I think, it is just visual. They share the same structure up to the A pillars, then the Merak's cabin is slightly longer to make the room for the rear seats. This probably makes the Merak's rear look shorter whereas the Bora has a shorter passenger space and a longer tail to accommodate the larger engine.
