Right then, I thought this deserved a new thread - I didn't want to drift the Panda/haircut thread.

In view of my comments, that I still firmly stand behind, on that thread that basically you'd be missing out on so much if you bought some 1 year old shopping box that's going to be reliable and economic, and your (fair) comment that you need something that's going to get the girls and that you feel a shed is not going to do that... allow me to introduce you to what should really be your first car.

It ticks all the boxes!
Attracting the ladies - check! Girls love a Porsche!
Man points for use on forums in the future in answer to "what was your first car?" - check!
Adventure - check!
Opportunities to learn how to be ingenious to get home/get to work/get laid - check!

And with the remaining £3k from your budget you could even insure it!

i quite like that, can you get a 944 for a little bit more as these had the engine from a Van. Dan, your right, it does tick all the right boxes.

Maybe Adam but that van engine will be cheaper to insure than the 944...Plus no matter what you have heard about these they were rather good......PLus cheaper to run than a 944...

I don't think so, I was speaking to a guy who bought his 17 year old daughter a VW Polo after she passed her test, he said that was £2k to insure on a limited milage (6k) and with him named as the main driver. So I don't think £3k will quite do it, especially as he isn't a she.

That is good value, the 100hp is not much more and insurance is about the same, it is the best car i can get for my first car. The diesel would be a good city car for you.

yeah but i wont be buying a 166, insurance is too much and imagine it on a trackday, would handle like a bus. If i get a Panda, i might track it.
