Following up on my thread where I challenged the forum to help me pick a replacement daily as my Mercedes CLS 350Cdi Brabus was getting a little long in the tooth.
The front runner was a Porsche Panamera mk1 and the challenge was to convince me to buy a Maserati (or other manufacturers)
@outrun suggested either a Macan or a BMW Alpina of any description. Luckily there is little desire for a SUV in my household but my wife and I had both grown up in areas where boy racers put Alpina rims on their bottom of the range 90s BMWs and that in put Alpina on the radar an aspirational brand for us growing up... Although I was set on not buying another BMW I would make an exception for an Alpina
So here it is... BMW Alpina F10 D5 Bi-Turbo #137
It had 40,500 miles and a lot of options a few to note are:
Nappa leather
Limited slip differential
Heads up display
Sports steering wheel
This car was originally for sale privately for £20k and Sytner bought it and marked it up. I was quite fortunate that the info on the prep work was shared with me and it totalled £2750 with no labour charge included on the internal invoice. Plus the after sales rectification costs I think we got a good deal buying it through the Alpina main dealer
The only option we added to the car was the silver Alpina decals. The Salesman was good he mentioned that they only cost £275 to supply and fit just as we agreed the deal and were about to leave... I said that I don't really care for them and my wife just walks off and pays for them with her card lol
The Salesman made sure that the job was done correctly and prior to the decals being installed got their body shop to machine polish the entire car
Before decals
After decals
On collection day with our old Merc next to it
I had the car inspected by AV Engineering just over a week after purchase. AV found a busted rear differential bushing - other than that the car is in very good health underneath
I found some other problems, a slow lock actuator on the drivers door, the same door card is rattling and I also found a couple of rust spots on the inner front right wheel arch caused by where the previous owner had never cleaned inside the arches - they were caked with mud and grit
Sytner have agreed to fix the issues and took the car away last Wednesday and left me with a brand new manual 218d which is a little slow for my taste but I admit it is fun to rag it to the shops and back.
The D5 is a great car, absolute monster on the straights and I am a little scared to see how it handles as the Pirelli summer tyres do not really work at the moment but it feels nimble and super grippy...
Pretty sure it will be faster than the 4200 so I am not looking forward to my wife looking smug when we take both cars out when the salt clears up in Spring
