Welcome Ghostrider and first thoughts were wow that plate is expensive for a non cherished 16 plate but you are right it is down to what someone is willing to pay and you paid it. Doesn't mean anyone else will. I would suggest putting it up on the Maserati Ghibli owners group on Facebook as there are many owners on there.

Everyone I hold my hand up too and have to say I am enjoying recent Ghibli diesel ownership, yes it isn't as good as the GTS but the 200 miles I've done over the weekend the thing just wafts along!

Here she is again.

Bianco Alpi with 21" Titanos. Lunch stop on way back from Carrs Exeter on Saturday.

Lol... yeah I guess someone did... although most people familiar with the buying of private plates know that dvla hold back any plate that is of any worth or reads favourably for a motoring enthusiast and then auction them separately so they don’t fall within the £250 a plate bracket... lol... but hey what do I know i’ve only every bought like 15 different plates in the past so my experience is probably limited compared to most on this forum

WoW 15 plates??... if you spent anywhere near the same than that Gh16blii one, you could have actually afforded a seat in a Ferrari FF with regular plates instead of a Ghibli :)

Lol... Firstly I thought I was very civilised in my response seems like some people think otherwise... somebody mentioned my “style” of response... ... to think I have style of any sort is very kind. Thank you.

Further I think harmless reactions on a motor forum on the Internet are little to be worried about or get my knickers in a twist about so I take them for what they are... as a relatively new member I was trying to engratiate myself I guess, by trying to address everybodies comments, I guess that was where I fell foul..

And regards the plate, after the grief I got on here I an easier solution would be to sell it with the car. So if anyone’s interested I have a cat D minor damage Maserati Ghibli for sale in the UK with only 7000 miles on the clock. Same spec car (please see pic for additional spec) with equivalent mileage on a 16 plate is 40k on autotrader at the moment...comes with with Ghibli plate... needs tracking, attention to the passenger side wing (has been paid attention to but for 100% cosmetic look will need a littleness tlc) passenger side airbag was deployed and has been replaced with new airbag but dash will need attention. Circa about 2k needs spending to bring up to scratch...

Open to offers :)AD10B08F-3311-49D9-8580-055B1085B739.jpeg

And the point about diesels... they come with a sports mode which opens up the exhaust and gives it that throaty sound petrol heads love, but can also operate in a more purring normal mode.

And the fact that you can get over 30mpg driving a 16 plate Maserati for me in anycase is a joy

Let me correct myself...

A straight car with same spec and mileage are all 40kish on autotrader at the moment.. simple search of Maserati Ghibli with parameters 2016, under 10k mileage, carbon will bring that up.

Work required is about 2k and then whatever needed for a good wash and tidy up. A few driving related little dinks here and there so let’s call that another 2k to make the bodywork A1.

Open to serious offers over 29k

I just can't excited about diesels, or automatics, or rebadged Chryslers, sorry...

We’ll surely all Maserati’s are now just rebadged Fiats.

And the diesel Ghibli actually saved the Maserati brand, your beloved versions were sinking the business into oblivion.

“Maserati has been in a transition since 2013. Sales in Europe had declined every year since 2009, but 2013 marked the replacement of the flagship sedan Quattroporte and the introduction of a smaller four-door sedan Ghibli, which competes with high-end versions of the BMW 5-series/6-series Gran Coupe, Audi A6/A7 and Mercedes-Benz E-class/CLS. As a result, the Italian brand’s sales have increased sharply since that year, peaking at almost 10.000 sales in 2017, nearly tenfold of the brand’s volume in 2012 and up from the previous record at just under 3.300 units in 2008.

One of the reasons the brand was able to grow so quickly was the success of the Ghibli and the addition of optional diesel engines on both the Ghibli and Quattroporte. The Quattroporte and Ghibli were the first Maseratis ever to be offered with a diesel engine, a 3.0 liter V6 turbodiesel unit cranking out 275 horsepower (205 kW). The Italian brand has broken its annual sales record every year from 2014 to 2017”

And also I think the above commentary blows the argument about the Ghibli being the car nobody wants lmao... given that Maserati has broken its annual sales record for every single year since the diesel Ghibli was introduced... but facts hey, who cares about facts, especially when you can do without and rely on any arbitrary responses you want in a car forum.

This is all true of course, but there are two factions, the traditional Maserati enthusiast, and those that are really execs that want a different badge. I think maybe you are latter, and most of here are the former.

The exclusivity was the attraction, now you can get a diesel auto almost a C300 with Maserati badges on it and still pay over the odds. For a car you can see quite frequently on the road.

I see what ur saying about FIAT, but there's a world of difference between to the two comparisons, FIAT owned, but I see no FIAT V8 or V12 in a Ferrari or Maserati, others will know better.

At the end of the day it's a personal thing but for me a GT/Sport saloon is an NA large engine with a clutch, even an DS clutch. I'd baulk at that but the paddles effectively press the release the clutch better than any normal driver, that's what I like. An improvement. Diesel and slush box isn't.

Just my 2p...

Respect your opinion and I don’t know any better so can’t say I agree or disagree. But I guess as much as yesterday’s cars are for todays enthusiasts so too will today’s cars be for the enthusiast tomorrow ...

In anycase there is no right or wrong answer and one persons enthusiasm doesn’t trump another’s, ultimately it is each to his own as long as motoring and cars win the day...

I’m am honoured to have received your 2p

Ghost rider I like you a lot. Most people would have been ranting by now but you are very controlled in your responses.

I slagged Ghibli and diseasels but actually they make lots of sense, the best of both Worlds and you are right they are the savior of the trident brand and the Levante even more so. It has cleaned up Worldwide....

How very Orwellian

The world tries to convince us it is more inclusive then it used to be but it’s all a very delicate facade, easily pushed aside even by the love of an engine type
