Anyone had previous experience/problems/replacing a Maserati GT Diff?

Afternoon all,

Over the weekend my 08 plate Maserati Granturismo started to make a sound similar to that of a wheel bearing on its way out. I ran it in to Grimaldi Engineering (Roberto's) who very politely dropped what he was doing to check each wheel but he couldn't find a wheel bearing problem, however after getting her lifted up it turns out its the diff/differential which is the cause.

As with any snag or problem on the car I use this as my point of call but I can't seem to find anyone or posts with this problem and know after speaking to Matt at Giallo (where I have historically taken the car) that he has never had to replace one. If more local I would have taken it to Matt for a second opinion but am afraid of driving her and causing more damage.

So my question to the group is whether anyone had any problems or had to replace the diff in the past as its an expensive part (new £1800) without labour and I guess I am just looking for some reassurance that this does happy, rather than thinking I have the unluckiest Maserati out there.

I've already started the hunt to find a second hand part and made some progress, but again have doubts on the condition and reliability of buying second hand parts.

Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Thats very similar to a problem many people had a few years back with the old 3200GT...drive line shunt caused by play in the diff, even from new!

15 years on there still £2,500 new...but the quality's not to be trusted..

Regarding old 3200GT diffs, Shiltech is currantly working on a fix!
