So far so good but I'm only 32. That said since kids I've let myself go a little too much for my liking!

37 now.
Ten years ago I was properly enormous - I had size 17 feet at the time. Lost around 12 stone then with an unsustainable diet and exercise. Put about half of it back on after I settled down with my now wife. A few years ago I resolved to do something about it and start going to the gym. Word of advice - if your gym instructor is almost as chubby as you are, it’s best not to take his advice. I did, and he had me doing squats even though I told him my right knee was dodgy. The predictable happened, craaaack. No gym for a few months. Then I went to Retromobile, the year it snowed, still hobbling a bit. On the way back from the RM Sotheby’s sale my shin ended up far further forward from my thigh than intended.

40 was approaching rapidly and with meaningful exercise unlikely to work, dieting unlikely to work quick enough even with willpower, drastic action needed to be taken.

Well I’m the thinnest I’ve ever been now, after the surgery. Healthier too, knee no longer playing up. My apparent ideal weight is is around 16 stone (I’m 6ft5) but that would make me rather anorexic. Aiming for around 18 stone, after the nutritionist’s advice, which I’m about a stone off, maybe less now. I’ve gone from a 6xl T shirt to 2, and from 52in waist to a 42. I don’t think the latter’s going to get any less as my pelvis isn’t going to get any smaller. I’ve even been doing mini sprints with El Doginhhos trying to improve fitness.
Really need to invest in some weights as there are some fairly grim downsides to losing such a large amount of weight in a year. Grim but funny, though probably not the best place to share those...

I had a high PSA level in march, followed by MRI scan just before this all kicked off, consultant refuses to have me in for further tests/ possible biopsy in present climate, which I am sort of glad of in a strange sort of way, hopefully will see me in July if situation has improved, but is a slight worry not knowing for sure, to say the least.
Fingers crossed.

I found cycling was one of the best ways to keep my weight in check while avoiding any stress on my knees I have when I run. Worth trying and will even build the quads up.

When I quit cycling 40/50 miles a day my weight stayed the same - but I guess that was partly muscle loss, although I remain very active.
