Mrs C is self isolating until Friday as a work colleague has just tested positive.

Hope she is fine and the precautionary action is proved unnecessary.
What should happen i these circumstances is a bit confusing.
Ideally they should be socially distancing at work and if that the case then no one needs to go home or get a test unless they also have symptoms (well that my understanding).
In the real world socially distancing at work is not an exact science and people are either cautious and trying to do the right thing by staying away, or scared and getting tests.
I odds on she will be fine
I don't think any of it is based on science , how can it be if your wife has to isolate but you don't
The science varies from country to country....I don't think any of it is based on science , how can it be if your wife has to isolate but you don't
Oh the instructions are very clear. She was in close contact (it's her supervisor) so she needs to self isolate for 14 days since their last contact. If you try to beat the system (i.e. lie to get a test because you have no symptoms) even if that test is negative, you should still self isolate.
I find it a little more odd that I don't have to isolate. She could be asymptomatically positive, and would probably have passed it on to me. I have no requirement to stay at home <shrug> although I will limit it as much as possible, make sure I wear a mask etc etc.
C
The rules state you only have to self isolate if you have been in contact with this person closer than 1 metre (we still use 2 metre though) for more than 15 minutes without a mask

It’s risk based; if there’s say a 1 in 10 chance she’s caught it from the sick person at work then there’s a 1 in 100 chance that it’s been transmitted to C
Well, yes. But I'd rather expect that the odds of her transmitting it to me are a **** sight higher than the odds of her having caught it from her colleague. She only has to spend 15 minutes within 2m of her. She's spent over 12 hours within 2m of me since she came home last night.....
C
According to this it's 2m, which is where Mrs C tripped it (sitting across a desk for a 1:1)

Maybe. I'm not saying it's not but.

Why do people feel the need to lie over this. She wouldn't be in trouble for not following the rules but we do need to know to stop the spread.
Quite simple, in most cases people have to isolate for 2 weeks on SSP and simply can't afford not to be working.
In her case is she paid her full salary while sat at home, hopefully not even sick? If she is paid her full salary she is very very lucky.
You’re supposed to be keeping as far from her as possible. Preferably she’s to isolate in a separate room.

We pay though and she knew this.
