Battery problems

After reading this thread, I bought one of these (CTEK XS800 - £27) as I'm not using my GS much at the moment. I have to say, it seems to be doing a fine job of keeping my battery in tip top condition. The connectors which come with it are pretty good, so once fitted it is very easy to connect up to the car. Its not the most powerful trickle charger, but I guessed that the normal drain wouldn't be that much either and it was cheaper than other models. All in all, it gets my thumbs up

Continuing with the problems with the boot lock - I took my Maser out today for the first time since the ice and snow disappeared and as I was driving along the boot popped up and I can't shut it. The key won't turn in the lock and I can't push the lid down to make it hold - has anybody any further ideas? I've tried WD40 and graphite. Many thanks.

mas, I once had this happen...my remote would not work, I could not turn the key and the boot lid would not shut...
I phoned a dealer and they said I should try closing the boot quite hard, rather than just a gentle push...
I hated doing it, but I gave it a slam...bingo, it stayed shut. I then used the remote to unlock it and it has worked fine ever since.

When I took a tour of the factory I saw the guys there using a mallet to 'adjust' the boot lock keeper...painful to watch them beating it down until flush when closed.

Just an update - a solanoid on the boot lock has failed and there is a big back order so will be some time before it can be replaced. The push button in the glove compartment has also failed. Does anybody else have these problems?

Be sure to WD40 the lock before using the key......when my remote failed to work, turned out to be a broken wire where the body meets the boot lid.

Also, if you ever have to open the boot with the key, it always feels like it is going to break, so lean down on the boot lip as you turn the key, it takes alot of the pressure off the lock/key.

Are you sure it's not a fuse that's blown? Just a thought.
