Battery problems

I went away for 2 weeks without isolating the battery on the Gransport and surprise surprise there was not enough juice to turn it over although there was enough power to run the radio and dashboard warning lights.

Whilst on the phone to Loz I isolated the battery and in the few minutes I was on the phone to him the battery recovered enough when I turned the swith on to fire her up.

I doubt this will work if the battery is run out completely but might be a useful tip for anyone who finds themself in my situation........especially in this cold weather

2 weeks away and a dead battery - not surprised! A battery conditioner means no probs. - I have 3 cars suitably wired up as I write this note.
[Apologies for repeating this mantra]

Same here...my CTEK trickle charger is nearly always plugged into one of the cars...works a treat!

No danger of a power surge or should the isolation switch be off when using this?????????

No need to disconnect the battery and no need to isolate either UM...
I have been using one for many years (mainly on classics, now on all my cars),
and have never had a problem...

You have to love the Italians.............shut off the isolation switch after taking the car for a drive..............went to open the boot this morning and what ya know?????? ...........the boot wouldn't open with the key.............why I hear you ask............cos the stupid lock had seized up due to lack of use..............spent the whole morning trying different oils to release it including WD40..........nothing would work until my neighbour came to the rescue with gun oil............

the moral of the story is check your lock works manually before turning off the isolation switch

Urby, this sounds exactly what I had to the other day. Left my car sitting for a couple of weeks, went to start it and just got click, click, click although the was enough power to for everything else to work.

I put it into first and neutral a few times and she started up full power. What I think happens is the clutch/gearbox sort of freezes or sticks with the cold and or lack of use, so its like trying to start your car in first...ie it wont.

Although the dash indicator says neutral, in fact you are still in gear hence why moving between first and neutral a few times frees it up.

did exactly the same thing once before UM - took 20 mins to free it, was a minute away from calling the flatbed!

I found that when my key wouldn't open the boot simply pushing down on the lid made it possible. Then gave the key in the lock a few twiddles with it open and it's now ok.
Well it was about a year ago, perhaps I ought to give it a workout this weekend.

Good one Klive, if theses a lot of "tension" betwix latch and bolt, then yes, by squeezing down on the lid can reduce the burden on the mechanism dramatically!

Simon it took me a whole morning to sort including a call to HR Owen who told me to push down on the boot but to no avail. WD40 did nothing and it took my neighbours gun oi from USAl to free it.

None of us really think about the locks but perhaps it should be more part of our routine service for the car. I am not sure if Maserati even have it as part of their service schedule

I have to say that when it eventually clicked it was very satisfying.........a bit like being constipated and finally having success :tomato9:
