.

Not the people then, like a pseudo democracy you mean? ie not a democracy at all? It's all ********.

Yep. Just the same as here.

We the voters elect an MP to represent us and make choices about governing the country on our behalf.

We don’t vote for the House of Lords or for who is Prime Minster. There isn’t even a legal requirement for the PM to be elected only a convention that they the sit in the House of Commons. The Monarch chooses the PM as the person most likely to command the respect of the House, and asks them to form a government. Very little is set out in law in this country and in legal terms the Monarch still has a lot of power although in reality she never exercises it.

I actually really like it. The fact that we can to all intents and purposes democratically govern our country based on convention, tradition and a sense of being right and just rather than laid down laws and a constitution is very British.

Pink gins all round. :)

At a guess I would say, bankers, capitalists, politicians or anyone else that creams the cash in off the backs of hard working folk. The clue is in the phrase "special interest" ie I'm alright Jack, **** you!
They've never creamed nothing off me.
Think you'll find the 'I'm alright jack' everywhere, everyone looking out for themselves so they can have a nice car and nice house.

I refer to me observing the U.S. The money behind the power. The similarities of the last several years is un-canny. I'm sure Sky reported on this briefly on Contributions made and contributors with Trump's election and separately Brexit...Correct me if I'm wrong. Hence my full post in 871. In addition I never understood why Jacob Rees Mogg moved his business interest to Dublin....yet is campaigning for a hard exit? Am I missing something here? Hmmm.
That's how the US has always operated, if you ain't got the money you can't run for President, you need backers.
Trump might not be to everyones taste but he's highlighted a few things that needed pointing out, countries not paying enough for NATO, trade tarriffs working against America.
Regarding JRM I've got no idea where he's stashing his money but tbh when it comes to polticians the one that gives me greatest concern is the mayor of London, whilst there's a murder on what seems to be a daily basis he's more concerned on devising ways to fleece the London motorist, when I lived in New York in the 80s they had a similar problem and ended up having zero tolerance which went some way to solving the issue, Mr Khan would do well on coming up with something similar.

As was mine and my offer still stands for a hearty meal and to any of you, all would be welcome no matter how, why and what you voted. You really can't beat a bit of Middle Eastern delight!

Where can I buy flatbreads and pickled turnips? Any idea?

Cheers

Oh I have to get a bottle of that, totally appeals to my sense of humour, if only my mother, or mother in law were alive, I’m thinking Xmas day dinner.....
'Tis no more. Was a "special" for the owner of a Calais booze cruise outfit. Romford boy had a warehouse called EastEnders.
Dave West - worth a Google.

Not sure what part of the country you are in but if you are anywhere near the Kingston hill Surrey area there is a brilliant Kurdish owned shop near the Robin Hood roundabout area called Suroor. Off the A3. You’ll find everything you need. He’s been there twenty plus years and imports all his stuff direct.
