Bought my Maserati 4200CC just 12 days ago and I can't stop smiling. Yes, it drinks petrol like I drink Guinness but hey it's my 'midlifecrisis' car. As a friend said 'Yes an XKR is a safe buy but when your are having a mid life crisis you don't play it safe!'.

It had to be a Maserati as I've owned fast bikes all my life and been all over Europe on them, flown around the world with work and leisure so there wasn't much left on the 'list of things to do before you die'!

Anyway, I'm loving it. Bought from Charlie at Classic Connection, previously owned by a lady lawyer (Yes I've 'googled' her, she's on Facebook too) who apparently sucked up a bit of water and it needed an complete engine rebuild (£17k!) at 38k miles. It's just clicked over 60k now, over 500 by me!

I fancy doing a tour in Europe this summer, possibly doing a trip to the Maserati Factory (or is this too much of a cliche?) I know it's gonna cost but that what these cars are for aren't they? For driving lo-ong distances in comfort and for enjoying.

So what's currently wrong with it? Erm, nothing! Well CD changer doesn't want to work, LW and MW do not want to know either, no NIT discs, I've not got a 'full-size SIM' for the telephone, so I can't use that. Oh and I am entirely responsible for the passenger window dip failing. It just broke on me at Cherwell services. I live not too far from Emblem so I'll pop along there one day and get it checked out. Oh and it's dirty...clay time sometime soon...got a willing volunteer too he just wants a drive as recompense.

Anyway that's me, and I like to say thank you to all you guys and girls out there on this forum and other fora (forums) for all your advice and insight into owning a Maserati whilst I have been doing my homework for the past 6 months...it is truly appreciated.
Thank you

Welcome Midlifecrisis,

What, there's no fat middle aged, balding men round here..... (tumbleweed blowes past....)

Adam's not even 20 and yet he's a veteran on here!

Sorry, I didn't mention that I've still got my own hair, teeth and wear 32" trousers that do fit me but then this isn't a dating site...lol...

Hi MLC and welcome to the forum. It sounds like you're enjoying your first days of Maserati ownership. Long may it last. If you drop Matt (Conaero) a PM and mention the NIT discs he can direct you to some information that might be helpful.

There are a few members who have done the grand tour and included the factory and I shall be doing exactly that myself later this year. As you say, these are GT's so they're the perfect tool for the job (well as long as you're not taking the kids and have learnt to micro-pack)

Do keep us updated as you get to grips with your car?

Cheers, Em.

Welcome to our humble forum. You have made a very wise choice as the general public have no idea about these cars, they take one look at the badge, go WOW a Maserati and think you must be a rock star or something, so will fit you MLC very nicely.

As for a Euro trip, it is on the cards to do another factory tour but Le Mans is the annual homage on here.

Get in touch with Loz to discuss both jeans size and Le Mans.

Enjoy!

Welcome MLF

Glad you love the car.

Re the full size SIM card you can get a holder that you pop your "normal size" sim inside. It came with my last Masser and there is probably a Mas part but a quick google came up with this:

http://www.m-99.co.uk/Mobile_Phone_SIM_Cards/Holder/holder.html

BTW my LW and MW don't work either so if you get to the root of the problem maybe you could let me know!

Cheers

Dave

Welcome Midlife. Nice to see that the permanent smile effect still holds true, enjoy as the others say. Would love to see pictures when you have a chance.

Though I think I can beat the waist size as I'm a 30" waist.......

Jeez, some response, wasn't expecting that many, cheers! I feel really welcome now. I'll get some pictures on here soon enough.
To answer some of your questions, yes 32" is my waist size and also my inside leg, call me square if you want! lol Khamsin, I'd be a 30" waist if I didn't drink Guinness, I was when I was in Australia 10 years ago. If not 28"!
I've been to Le Mans, a few times mainly for the MotoGP and they are pretty raucous affairs so I'm up for next year- I'll check out the current threads for details so I can prep for next year but I'll disucss with Loz in time.
Dave- Thanks for the tip on the SIM card, I think i can lay my hands on a few old blanks...if I do I'll let you all know. As for LW and MW, well if anyone here knows about radios then it's gotta be me, without pulling anything apart, I don't think the antenna is connected! I've seen somewhere some instructions on getting into the centre console so I'll probably have a play in the next few weeks...
Emtee- Thanks for the tip on the NIT discs, I'll pop a PM to Conaero in due course, and yes I can micro pack, I've have motorbikes too!

Once again thanks you all for the welcome.
