New to the Forum...from the US.
Looking for advice on first Maserati...a beautiful silver '06 GranSport Spyder.
There was froth/bubbles on the oil stick...when I checked the oil.
Has anyone seen this?

Hi and welcome. The GS Spyder is a lovely machine. With regard to the dip stick the oil is continually recycling into the header tank as it's dry sump so yes it does get frothy. However if there is water in the oil this is more serious and signs of head gasket failure. Water in the oil will leave a milky White residue on the dipstick.

The engines in these cars are bomb proof so I am sure what you are seeing is normal.

IS 60 a mid or late life crisis? Doesn't matter really as long as I can finger the shift lever on my GSP!

PS...I thought my '03 Porsche CS4 was the answer to mid life crisis...wrong.

Stoner, how much is a GS Spyder in the states? just interested in comparing the prices of them over in the states to the prices of the GS Spyder here in the U.K.

Adam,
Low milage Spyder...under 10,000 miles...will run $55,000 USD. Not sure what that is in pound sterling.

Just converted it and it equates to £34k. If that is an accurate and up to date converter then that is a good price on a GS Spyder with 10k miles. A GS Spyder in the U.K with 10k miles would probably fetch £40k which equates to around $64k according to the converter.

Hi Stoner and welcome. Hope the froth on the dipstick was more expresso rather than Latte? Cheers, Em.

Em,
I got this Spyder a month ago and was not successful in getting the service records...the privacy laws here are ridiculous...from the prior owner. As a result I don't know when the oil was last changed...so I plan to have my local exotic car shop to the job next week.
A question for you...what brand of oil do you recommend? I used Mobil 1 in my Porsche.
Cheers!

Hi Stoner, we are inclined to be purist here as regards fluids.....Shell Helix 5W/40 Fully synthetic...as used by Maserati

Hi Stoner, As P mentions Shell Helix is what Maserati recommend, although I don't know whether this is true of the US market as well?

Interesting what you say about the US privacy laws. So as far as the service centre is concerned, the privacy of the previous owner takes precedence over the car in question and its new owner? Does seem ridiculous.

Anyhoo, hope your guys get it sorted for you next week without any issue.

Cheers, Em.

Hi stoner and welcome, can I just be the first to say, never put Mobil 1 in these cars I have heard a few horror stories over here, best to do as the others say and stick with the correct Shell Helix 5W/40 Fully Synthetic.

Even if you have to wait another week for it to be shipped, its better to use what you have than put the wrong oil in.

Hi Matt,
Were there problems or areas of concern with Mobil 1 in Maseratis? Don't want to start another oil debate/war, I remember the last one and there were too many casualties, just curious.
Cheers

Although its not listed in the handbook as being Shell specifically....just the weight and other specs.....this is what Maserati MDs and ALL (?) indies use.

Thanks to a ALL for your responses about what type of oil for my Spyder...I asked because the Maserati owner's manual recommends AGIP TECSINT SL W5/40.
I my many years of motoring I have yet to see AGIP motor oil for sale...and I was curious to see if all the group was using AGIP.
