So on the way back from the Ace the other week all the instrumentation illuminates, speedo needle up & down.... mmmm not good me thinks. The dreaded 'go to dealer' 'airbag failure' 'MSP failure' all stack up. Not too much to go on on the www. A few reported incidents but no solutions! Rumours on the www go from loose wire's - earth ? to full NIT failure 5K + gulp!
Check and tighten the battery terminals, loose'ish yes but OK. Now I've got airbag warning etc all on so pluck up the courage to call Qwen's, they looked after the car for the previous owner. They seemed OK when I first asked about the car before I purchased so first point of contact.
Negotiate a what can you do for me price and although not ideal we settle on £60 for the first 1/2 hr diagnostic and then £120 ph there after......
Pitch up today and the guys are all over it for me bang on 9am. 10 mins later they rule out NIT failure, phew! However there is still a fault on the cam wire which they can't clear. It could be, they say, a trapped wire, loose connection or fault with the unit which is conveniently located up under the front suspension.
So it's still a days + investigation + parts + labour so although not a give car back to dealer and walk away situation it's going to be a few ££'s. So will keep you posted in a couple of weeks time when it gets in.
Must say though, they did say if it was the cam unit because it's unusual they would look at contributing towards the cost of the part and labour, which I didn't expect to hear. They will also do the tie rods while its there as per the recall.
So go to get the CC out and they say no charge!
So generally impressed with them to date.
So a full dash illumination could be as simple as a loose battery terminal or the dreaded 5k+ NIT failure.
