Howdy Chaps, Green flag have just told me they won't cover the 3200 as its now over 16 years old. What does everyone else do for older cars. Btw I've called my insurance company and they have replied with the same answer -tks

Strange, I spoke to the AA before renewing this year and they are fine covering the 32 as were the RAC last year?

Cheers I will try them, might just be Green Flag, they will cover the BMW 14 and the Ford 3 years old. Used to have them all my cars one policy since 2009.

Tony, I have Green Flag on an annual policy for European cover and as the GS hit 10 years old I did not renew as the price doubled so I can see this as simply a Green Flag thing, try RAC/AA.

I will now go AA on a trip by trip basis at circa £50 a go.

I do AA one year RAC the next through quidco , some quite big savings to be had , green flag wouldn't cover me in the van so no use to me at all

Thanks, the RAC have given me a quote for three cars at £160.00, so I will at least have cover now.

In the past I used to have this as a benefit on one of the premium charge cards, but the bank has cancelled all the add on benefits :(

Cheers, Just been quoted from the AA, two people in three cars £149.00 which is better.

Are we talking UK or Euro recovery here?

For the UK our AA cover is for either the wife or I in any car we are driver or passenger in. This year they upgraded us to Gold Membership which removed the limit on the number or callouts during the year amongst other things.

Use Green Flag for Euro cover for the Spyder last year and it was about £50 for the trip which given the way they handled recovery when it did breakdown there a few years ago I was happy to take.

It's for UK cover. AA through Quidco (although never heard of them till today) offers best value @ £119 for both of us in any car. This is for new members so a bit of a discount on going direct.

Have family cover (me and the Mrs) with the RAC, when in any car.
Covers my 43 year old Stag, so would hope they cover the Maser!

I have a rolling cover with RAC for £16 a month, which covers me in any car I'm in across Europe.

A couple of years ago we took the Capri which is a '76 model to France for a trip, I phoned the AA for cover which they were unable to offer. The car was insured on a agreed value classic policy which included local (within 15 miles) recovery and breakdown cover, so I called them on the off chance, an additional £15 gave me European cover for the year, the limits in costs covered were well over the amount either the AA or RAC offered for new cars to!

Maybe I should be thinking of putting the 3200 on a similar policy?

This sounds a good deal, I do less than 5000 miles in total across all three cars & like the 25 years bit.

I pay £25 a month with the AA and it covers both my Audi and my Maserati (2004) with £500 of parts and labour per call out upto 3 times in a year . They recovered my car to Ftech when the clutch went ( which was 150 miles away even though i lived a mile away ) and they paid £500 towards the clutch replacement .

I have to get a seperate trip policy for Le mans with whoever is the cheapest for relay . Green flag usually

I use Auto Aid for all of our vehicles (£42.50 per year for me and the Mrs), which is a pay and claim back service underwritten by Equity Red Star. For more conventional cover, speak to Britannia Rescue. For the 3200, full euro cover is provided with my insurance policy from Classic Line, so no vehicle age issues at all there.

out of interest how much do classic line charge?
my 3200 is with A-plan for about £400
the 49 yr old rover 2000TC is on classic policy RH - £80 - which includes uk & euro breakdown. Maybe time to give them a call about the 3200

Renewed my 3200 insurance in Feb. Came in at a whisker over £320 inc agreed value, breakdown cover etc. It went up for having the Mrs added, but she has had a few claims and points in the last couple of years.

I've been with the AA since the 1980s and have never had a problem getting anything relayed. It costs us £199 for family cover for four people and any car or bike. Includes homestart and relay.

Quidco are fine. I've used them for about 7 years, including some AA/RAC cashback - though remember that cashback isn't guaranteed.

Pretty sure that RAC / AA are the only ones who don't have an age statement in their terms. I looked at Green Flag and others a couple of years back and ruled them all out with my 1998 Lotus.

2 other things to note. If you shop at Tesco, you can use Clubcard vouchers for RAC membership.
Your renewal will be high - probably higher than the full price on the website, and certainly a LOT higher than the quidco cashback new member deals. Either call them and discuss, or switch to the other one - AA or RAC. Loyalty doesn't pay nowadays!
