GPS trackers have been around for yonks. Apple have just jumped on the bandwagon and now it’s a news story. If they really want to track your car there’s less detectable devices out there, we’ve got them on bits of plant.

In that case, everyone's cars are tagged already and will be gone by Christmas to be driven by people in foreign countries. In return, we'll all get a Chinese respiratory disease and the economy will crash. If it doesn't then it will soon and it's all a scam and none of it is true and the earth is a science experiment controlled by two mice (Benjy and Franky).

Benjy any Franky?
Don’t they run that American diner place, they are doing well to control the world. Fair play to them.

Indeed. I've had a NotAirTag(tm) on some of my luggage for years. Tile.

Apple air tag isnt GPS as such. Its bluetooth short range from your own phone but uses any nearby apple phones as a network to upload the tag location to ICloud. Nothing is stored on the tag. So even if it is found on a car its going to be difficult to trace the culprits that were planning on robbing the car.

Whether it uses GPS or Apples’ own “network of phones” doesn’t really make a difference, what I was getting at was this isn’t new. For some time I’ve been able to buy a bit of kit for £50 that’d allow me to track your car that’s pretty much undetectable to the cars owner (unlike an airtag) and would be very difficult to find the culprits too.

Don't forget. We have all been chipped 2 or 3 times now in the last year so no need to tag our cars. Just scan us whilst we stand like sheep in the Starbucks queue and away we go.

Won't be long before that is over here then, if not already. Go to a car show, select your favourites and away you go.

Well, the car thief still has to go and steal the car from whatever location they have tracked it to.

But I suppose it means that if you have a very desirable car (or have a stalker), you now need to get an App that looks out for dodgy Bluetooth devices around you - it's a simple application really - one that lists any BT device that seems not to be moving relative to your own phone for a while.

I read that ios notifies you if it picks up a tracking device that is not linked to the phone.

I think we’re safe. Who steals maseratis anyway?
The scrotes have no interest in them at all, they are just after sporty VAG/BMW/Merc/Ford stuff, plus landrover/range rovers. In fact you’re more likely to have a standard fiesta nicked than a quattroporte/granturismo.
Hope I don’t live to regret that statement……but im pretty sure that stats back it up.
