those wheels from the Celica of period? Must be Toyota engined variant I guess.

Yes the wheels are Toyota. Toyota had shares in Lotus at the time.
They borrowed the Celica Supra gearbox/diff and hubs/brakes etc.
The engine however was still a Lotus 2.2 Twin Cam on twin dellortos. Only 160 BHP but went well at the time. The handling was sublime.
I did like the Celica Supra at the time too.

I still hanker after a Citrine Yellow Mondeo Si.
I’ve no idea why.

Slightly more understandable (hopefully) is a black Sierra XR4i with a red stripe. Lovely cars, smooth V6, rides well, feels like a wafty Citroen rather than the hometown hooligan it looks like. I really warmed to it after driving it.

I’d love a Honda CBX but they’ve gone mental price wise.
This will make your day, the local Honda dealer had a CBX in the crate that they couldn't sell ( too pricey), so they put it together and displayed it. All these years later it's still there, 0 miles, brand new, not for sale.

When I was in my late teens I test drove a Mk1 Mazda RX7 and was mightily impressed. I still might have a pop one day but I haven’t got the room for one at the moment. I always promised myself an HS Chevette and a UR Quattro which I‘ve got but I’m more into motorbikes at the moment, I’d love a Honda CBX but they’ve gone mental price wise.

Loved the RX7 Benny. Had an original brochure for the MK1 and could stop looking at the pictures back then. finally got to drive one and loved it even more.

My Dad bought a Red RX7 new in 82 on a second midlife crisis as my Mum called it as 10 years previously he had an Elan Sprint these were just his personal playthings but I remember driving it and being very impressed especially loving the buzzer to tell you to change gear.

There's a metallic green RX7 somewhere near my house. I've seen it twice since we moved.

Looks a bit tatty. Might even be someones daily.

I think this thread might be better be titled: "Cars you WANTED as a Boy, but DO NOT want now"

Nah, I prefer the title as it is; I still want a Mk1 RX7 and, one day, I’ll treat myself if I find the right car.

There were a few cars that left a mark as a kid, a neighbour had an early Countach wnen i was a kid in the mid 70's, bright orange, think it was one of the first in the country, looked like nothing else on the road at the time, like it had arrived from space, sadly unlikely to be able to ever have one. Also the Lotus Europa still fancy one of those and also always liked the Jensen, ideally an SP or the FF.

There are plenty of others too, but space and time to actually use them seems to be an issue (i have a problem parting with them), always loved my 70's fords and fortunately still have them, really not sure what my next purchase will be, did think Jensen but recently I keep looking at Cresta PA's!

Back in the 1990’s, although not a lad at the time I also wanted an E31 BMW 850, in today’s money it would have cost in the region of 100K plus at the time, so no chance. Unfortunately, I now have one, bought it for a small fraction of that price, but it is draining my bank account. Be careful what you wish for.
Just got the old E31 back from the BMW indie after some work, plus service and MOT. I won’t complain about Maserati spare parts again, a lot of the parts have to be OEM and to be honest lucky that BMW are still supplying them. As an example, ignition looms £750, rear wheel steering pipes and fittings £1050, air inlet manifold gaskets £412 and it goes on. In all, over 4K and that’s not including the cats which I bought and supplied myself. I have been lucky with the 4200, apart from yearly services, new discs, one shock it has been great. I did buy X pipes and Larini back boxes, but they don’t count in the man maths, I know this is not particularly a Maserati orientated post, but it’s good to be able to say something about cars in general on a motoring forum as opposed to other topics. I am keeping a 27 year old (before it’s time) V12 5 litre classic on the road. Wonder what will be left of a 27 year old 4200 when the time comes.

When I was a kid my parents always had good cars, my dad was in the trade... The one i always wanted was his 1972 Rover p5b coupe in maroon.. beige leather, front and rear headrests, toolkit in the slide out tray in the dashboard, wooden capped door cards, Rostyle(?) wheels with pin whitewalls.. loads of chrome and it sounded great .
