Does anybody remember that cigar advert from 40 years back with the widened Anglia driving through a farm gate?
Yes I do, That original glassfibre Anglia was bolted on to the front of JE Motorsports in Coventry down on Siskin Drive in the late 80's!;)

The muppet who buys that for asking price....

They weren’t that good to start with. Although the way investments are at the moment, you can buy LEGO Star Wars Kits for a few hundred. Everyone is looking to make a profit.
That’s relatively inexpensive for one of those.
I suggest some look away now...

Lots of choice for not a universally appreciated car. I don't have smth against fast fords, in fact I would love Mk1 focus RS for mid-10s or one of the late special Mustangs, but can't see the appeal of that escort..

I’m rather more understanding - after all, a Shamal had lots of things that are objectively sub optimal but I want one of those more than my next breakfast, even though a 550 Maranello is objectively better in almost every way. The value conferred upon it is not for its abilities, it’s for what it IS.

It’s the same with the Escort Cosworth. I dreamed of one when a nipper, and even though I’ve driven a few and been underwhelmed, I still have one on my lottery list...
The Escort Cosworth is more than a car; much like the Lotus Carlton it’s a cultural icon for people of a certain mind, a mind that I share for largely nostalgic reasons. It’s the other side of the coin to me having absolutely no interest in Jaguar E-types, Minis, Morris Minors or Lotus Cortinas, even if I do respect them.

I do rather like the old Sierra Cosworth's though!

Ah, the birthplace of all my dreams. I’ve driven a 2WD Saff which was exciting in all the ways the Escort wasn’t, but I’ve purposefully avoided the 3doors as they are the ultimate heroes and I may be crushed if they don’t live up to the dream...

We have some RS500 action in the first issue of Strada - in depth interviews with Soper, Johnson and Rouse about the Silverstone TT in 88.

Believe you me racing a 500 hp plus old Sierra Cosworth around Jarama for 3 hours 25 years ago wasn't easy!

Looking back it was great fun, but don't want to go back there ever again!

Dave

sounds great, not many people can say they experienced something like that

Was yours a RHD one? Speaking to Rouse the RHD cars the driver was sat behind the turbo unlike the lefties, which meant it was like being sat in a furnace.
I think after the Birmingham race one year half the grid needed to be given medical treatment afterwards.

Nail on head Nayf .... and I agree 100%.

I have the same views on Etypes and also have no interest in anything with a blue oval (save for an RS200)
