Centenary Routes (Passes)

Im assuming the route down to Troyes, Mulhouse will be pretty much a straight run. (Although Colmar is worth a visit as is the Schlumpf Museum in Mulhouse)

So its just the bits in the middle, if we do the Furka we can stop at the Rhone Glacier amongst other stops on the way, the Furka Pass at the end is really tight but Grimsel spectacular as is the fluela.

Any suggestions or ideas would be good, but I may play it by ear. There is no quick and easy route to Bormio, its the longest day of the lot.

On the way back im going through Aosta to Martigny where some of the Italian Job roads are (the rest were in France)

1. Long Route

Susten Pass / Grimsel Pass / Furka Pass / San Bernadino / Fluela Pass

2. Medium Route

As above less San Bernadino

https://goo.gl/maps/i783D

3 Shorter Route

Lot shorter and only Fluela Pass and Gottard Pass

https://goo.gl/maps/LWGWB

4. Alternative via St Moritz, can add and remove passes

I have Michelin paper Maps to look at as well while we are there, which help.

Thoughts and suggestions helpful, but its personal preference of course.

The other thing to bear in mind always in Switzerland are the Police, they have no tolerance at all, none, and no sense of humour, they hate cars and especially our cars!! There are ways a means to enjoy though, especially tunnels.

Excellent Frank, I will take a look at them all and we can discuss them over a beer. On my provisional route I have included Fluela on the way to Bormio, but anything spectacular is good..!! We planned to do the Museum in Mulhouse, that should take half a day easy..!!

The 'longest day' looks like the best one. Maseratis, mountain passes and tunnels, does life get any better?!

Would have been better without the singing and a nice exhaust, but excellent video, loads of grit on the road though..!!

I found the upper reaches of the Stelvio a bit tedious, but the bottom part up to the snow line is pretty epic. Coming down from the snow line (the road was blocked with snow) the last time me and Ryan did it was the only time I've come close to running out of brakes on the spyder. The discs were black and the pads were very nearly on fire! We then went back to Stelvio town and across the Fluella pass to Davos which was awesome; no traffic, no worries and a fierce desire to enjoy ourselves and tear the place up, which we did. Great memories, and here's hoping for some more!

Not to my knowledge. On the two occasions I've done the Stelvio I've set off both times from the town and gone up. The second time we did it, we got to the snow line and came back down. At some point I'll have a look on Google maps to see. The other option is to go up and down at first light before the traffic builds up but in mid/late September it may well be closed due to snow.

my car is a comedy act in the snow. would prefer to avoid this sort of entertainment (although childish bravado will mean that if you guys do it I will be obliged to!)

Get on Stelvio early, all stop in a line and back the traffic up then head off at 30 sec intervals.
