Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a daily hack do save my beloved masie from the commute ( especially as petrol is extortionate ).

Max spend 5k, and want it to be as economical as possible 45mpg+ also need it to be very cheap on consumables and servicing.

I'm thinking either fiat panda 1.2 or smart four two....... Anyone have any thoughts...?

I just did the same got a Fiat Stilio. If the budget can stretch then I would have gone for a Fiat 500 a few people have them on here, if not then Alfa 159 or GT are a couple of great cars that give a little Italian flavour to your driveway

Nice cars but I think the alfas would be quite expensive to run, and sorry stilo too ugly for me ( I know the panda is no oil painting but fun to drive )

Fiat 500 a bit out of my budget, but would love one.

Yep Alfa is great but doesn't suit your needs for economy and cheap to run...Panda is a good bet.......

Panda is nice, if it is only a run around why spend £5k buy an older panda say 2004 with 40k on it for £2400 and save or bit of money. Just as reliable as a 2007 and not much different. If you need to convince the other half into having a little older car spend the money saved on a nice holiday if not spend it on the maserati!

My Stilio on cost me £1700. 2002 with only 22k miles left it for a week in -12 and started first time

Blimey that's cheap I suppose that's almost a throwaway car when something goes wrong..... Do you get it serviced?

Your right about the cheaper panda, if I could find one in my area (Bracknell)

no, it had one lady owner from Wales full service history, and it came will three months warrenty, it's worth going on autotrader and putting in some silly low milage searches you will be surprised what comes up, a lot of these small cars are used for local trips only so can be in good nick

if you want a Panda and have 5K to spend, has to be a 100hp although you probably wont get that great mpg from it.

The 1.2 is great fun I bought one for my dad for his retirement from trade sales. Great fun to drive. Believe it or nct much better than the 1.1

only 4k at the time and he really likes it too.

Alfa 147 in 1.9 diesel form. Pretty, great handling and nippy for a diesel with economy to match
